I have this theory...

that if you hold a rock out at arms length and then let go it should reach a point half way to the ground before it actually gets to the ground.

And then, from this new point it would have to travel another, albeit much shorter, distance to reach the half way point from this new, and shorter, height.

So, regardless of the distance to the ground the rock must travel, it would have to reach a point HALFWAY to the ground before it could actually reach it.

I've theorized that if this process is continued the rock should never hit the ground.


To test my theory I went out to the back yard when no one was looking and dropped a small rock. You should have seen the look of surprise on my face when I witnessed the results!

Okay, all kidding aside, I know what the answer is when explained with calculus. Without using any direct references to math let's here YOUR explanation of why that defiant rock hit the ground, thus ruining my theory. I've only heard one good one in 35 years and I'll share it with you. But first let's hear what you guys got.
