Sig field Boss

First, this was my initial experience with a laser cut kit. The wood is top quality 5/16" ply and everything is notched/keyed to fit together perfectly. Just hit it with medium CA (you'll use a LOT of CA on this project) and it's assembled!

The precision of the laser cut parts results in NO tolerences. This is the problem with the drawers. If left unfinished they'll likely work but a coat or two of any type of finish to protect the wood requires some pretty substantial sanding to loosen them up again.

I've still not resanded mine so they either get stuck (I've pulled one of the knobs off trying to get the drawer out) or they squeal horriby until you sand enough to give them the needed slop.

The biggest drawback of this field box is it's size and WEIGHT. It's heavy! Another drawback is it was designed before the introduction of Sig's own power panel so you have to enlarge the factory laser cut hole to fit the Sig panel.

I would recommend a good look at Sig's new mini Field Boss with it's detachable power supply module. Just take the battery/panel to the flite line instead of lugging the big box. You'll still likely need the big box for everything else but perhaps it can get left in the pits or in the car. I'm tempted to call Sig to see if I can get just the parts for the power supply module.

Gosh, Dick! If this is what you carry to the 'apron', the Sig box must be that Monster with Drawers in the background!!! Hate to carry that with my back...Beautiful work, though...
