Larry Richards "Squaw"

I just opened my new Squaw kit from Larry, and as usual for Larry, it is dynamite. I thought I knew how the whack balsa, but I have been cured of any illusions on that score....It contains a copy of the original isometric plans, not full size. So it could well be built in your lap with Ambroid. Cloth hinges, silk, maybe even Aerogloss. I suspect it will fly nicely on a Veco 19. Treat yourself, these are nicely made kits with good wood and gorgeous cutting.

I'm building mine now, even to having origional Veco control horns and wheels and bellcrank.
Power is an OS20FP

I also have an FP20, but feel like I want to use a more "traditional" engine. I'm not wild about trying to find and run a Veco 31 like the plans suggest, however. I do have 2 or 3 of the Veco 19s. Anyone got any mufflers to fit?

Well the Christmas holidays has given me enough time to finish the plane to the point of covering and finish. The whole thing is together with motor,aluminum spinner, tank and sullivan light wheels. So I did something that I usually don't do and weighed it. My scale is old and probably off so till I get a newer one the weight that I have is 20 oz. I have no idea if this is good or bad nor do I really care. The kit was great to build and was a nostalgia trip for me. I have finish sanding to do and prep work. With a Papoose, Brave,Lil T Bird and probably a Chief to go you can tell that I like Larry's kits.
Some things that were used were small C/F push rod 1/8 diam. Ball links,2.5 oz uniflow tank, full cowl inverted motor, an OS20F,and bubble canopy.
They can't all look like primary trainers.
I had one of these as a teenager with an Enya 29 and had a ton of flying with it. Hopefully this one will last as long and give me as much pleasure. Dennis

When I was a kid and flying (early 1950s), a local kid had made it to fly in the Nationals being held at Willow Grove Air Station in PA. I watched him practice the pattern at our local school yard flying field. He flew a Squaw powered with a Mohawk Chief 29. It ran a 4-2-4 very well, and was a perfect power plant for the Squaw. In those days, we believed the silk span had to adhere to the "tadpole" ribs, so we applied glue to the ribs when applying wet silkspan. I didn't fly a Squaw, but did build and fly a Chief with Fox 35.

I brought this forward because when I wrote this it was around xmas last year. I have flown this plane and with an os 20 F,which everyone thinks is the S series.
a nicer package you can't find it came out light and flies the oldtime pattern beautifully and is not to bad on the modern one,at least as well as I fly it.
Seriously there have been quite a few posts here about people buying Larry's kits and of course telling the world how great they are,but who else is finished and flying one of Larry's kits.How did you like the kit, flying ,etc.
After all we have talented people like Larry making this great stuff for us. Lets at least let them know that their work is getting into the air where it really belongs.

This Larry Richards "Warrior" isn't in the air yet, but it will be in a couple weeks.
