Bronze and copper metalics for painting

Earlier on the forum I asked about Bronze dopes and found there are no more. I believe Bret mentioned finding the powders and adding to clear dope. I have found a brand that works so far. I found these at Hobby Lobby. They are called "Perfect Pearls" by Ranger in Tinton Hills, NJ 07724 (www.rangerink.com). I mixed a dash of bronze powder with some Brodaks thinner and it disolved immediately. When it settled it was pure bronze, no streaking or swirling like silver paint or gold paint. Then I mixed it with Brodaks clear and sprayed the leading edge of one of my "in gray" planes. Good news is it covers very nicely. Bad news is it shows every scratch, pin hole, ding, fault better than or worse than silver. Guess it depends on point of view. The package had a total of 10 grams of powders. Gold, Silver, Copper and Bronze plus a little box of sticky stuff so you can apply this to artsy fartsy things gurls like. It states it is soluble in water and other mediums, and is acid free.

Ty.... Does it produce a bronze tint or a metal flake look? Judging from the fact that it is soluable would seem to indicate that it's a tint as opposed to a suspension (metal flake).

It produces a shiney bronze tint, it doesn't look like flakes as there are none. The material is a very fine powder.

just a thought you might try going to your local dupont paint store or your ppg paint store as they have powder pearls that mix in automotive paint that should work just fine in the dope. but hang on to your wallet they are kinda pricey. but as many differnt colors of the pearls that they make you should find any color to tickle your fancy

Having been in automotive industry for many years, I know about the $$$$$ for dem der pearls. No thanks. No plane is worth that much, at least not to me.

I may have mentioned it - but for goodness sake don't confuse me with an expert on the topic! I have heard of people doing this and that's about it.
