As many of you know I put a lot of effort into making high quality kits and my motto is "if it's Built Right, It Will Fly Right"

but I really think that this starts In the Beginning stages of production so I'd like to personally and publicly thank the following for going the extra mile.

Bob Kruger, Kurt Olden, Pat Johnston, Watt Moore, George Voss, Ty Marcucci, Ward Van Duzer, Allen Brickhaus, Randy Ryan and most of all my wonderful wife Ann Marie for putting up with it all.

Bob, Kurt and Pat have been working hard on the plans for the newest coming kits like the Cobra, El Diablo, Victory and Galloping Comedian plans for the kits I will be making in the future

so I thought I'd just share with you guys what you have to choose from in the future

Hey folks;

I've never been much of a kit builder. After my first few as a kid, I realized that I could do better. I don't ding mass produced kits of the 50's - 70's. They were what they were - a bargain for the times. But the quality was not there. If you wanted light, straight, and strong, you built from scratch. Period.

Fast forward to the '90s and '00s. We now have folks like Brodak and RSM making kits. These are good kits. Better than mass produced from years ago. Not quite as good as scratch. Still good value for the money.

At the top, we now we have custom kit builders like Walt Umland, Larry Richards, et al. I have not had the chance to try one of Larry's kits. Larry's reputation preceedes him, though, so they must be good. I have had the chance to sample an Umland kit. I have finally realized that I could not build from scratch better than what Walt puts in his kits. They are magnificent.

If you want to build from a kit, and you want the best, you won't go wrong with an Umland kit. They aren't cheap, but quality never is.

Well said Bob. Walter's kits and Larry Richard's kits are different, but both represent what I wish the kits I built as a kid were. Parts fit, wood is light, and all the cheap kit tricks have been eleminated. With specialists like Walter and Larry and production choices like Brodak and RSM, this is truly the "golden age" for control line flyers. I don't mean to leave out Blue Sky Models or Ultra Hobbies, because thay're all part of our ability to build the designs we remember as kids. If only Veco or Midwest had Larry's quality- if only Guillows or deBolt or Berkely had Walter's quality, think how much easier getting started in control line would have been. With meets like VSC and Brodak's, these are the good old days.
