Brodak Oriental ARC

While attending Toledo this year, I was able to convince John to sell me his ARC demo when the expo was over.
I can't post any pix, but I have shown the package to quite a few people and everyone is quite amazed at the quality of the construction and the smooth finish of the components.
The wing weighs 260 gms. and the fuse is 159 gms.
The fuse has lite ply formers and the top is formed sheet with a stringer running the length of the top. A removable hatch for the tank is held with two screws and the room for the tank is huge.
Ply doublers run all the way to the trailing edge of the wing and the fit of fhe wing to fuse is perfect.
At the rate I build, I figure that I have saved at least 20 hours of time.

I have seen, held, touched the ARC Oriental that Dick described above.
It looks great, workmanship is all Dick says it is, maybe more.
We cant wait to see it finished and flying.

I finished the Oriental ARC and was very happy how it came out. I am not the fastest builder/finisher but this model was quite simple to complete. The finish sanding job was so smooth that I did not do any additional sanding. Two coats of Brodak clear and on went the polyspan on the wing. I filled the fuse with light carbon fibre and dope. some sanding and a spray coat of primer sandad out and I was ready for paint. I filled the nose similar to the kit plans and didn't use the cowl. A Brodak 40, APC 11X4 gives 5.5 laps. The plane turns very tight and almost lost it in outsides, added 3/4oz. tip weight and got better. Will add another 1/2 oz. before Saturday. Engine needed 5 flips for 3 starts, very happy with both of John'sofferings.

Having seen the ARC Oriental, finished and flying, I will say the photo doesnot do it justice. Dick, we can try for better pictures this weekend.
