Carbon Fiber Pushrods

Here's a product I like for control systems. Go to centralhobbies.com and order Part Number CHMPRS36T4. For ONLY $16.95 + shipping you get two 3/16"OD CF hollow rods and four titanium ends. The ends are threaded 4-40 about halfway and the other half fits into the cf rod. To quote their instructions: "The ends are manufactured specifically for the rods, and are the exact diameter necessary to provide the proper space for the adhesive (JB Weld is recommended) to achieve the proper bond". Before using the JB Weld, clean the inside of the CF rod with a pipe cleaner and the titanium end with alcohol and let air dry. Do not touch the clean titanium ends with your greasy paws! Apply JB Weld to mating parts, then insert end into rod and let cure per JB Weld instructions. Cut the CF rod to the desired length - I use a razor saw - take your time! Repeat the above to mate the other cf end with a titanium rod. When you do this the inside the rod will compress the air inside like a piston and force the end out of the cf rod; so brace it not to do this or you will have a finished piece longer than desired! You can then finish the cf rod with wrapping of your choice to avoid splitting, attach swivels (I use the #57 HD swivels from Tom Morris along with his flap horn and adjustable elevator horn), install pushrod system in plane. Notice the smooth, slopfree action! For all the work and $$$ you put into a plane you deserve the best control system - this combination is one of the best!

Slip two short pieces of aluminum tubing over the CF pushrod first, slide them down to the ends and stick them down with a drop of Zap or epoxy to make a nice ferrule. Prevents splitting and adds a nice finished look.
