New U-Key 35

The new U-Key 35 from Jim Pearson makes a lot of improvements from the last generation of U-Key35s. The elevator is taped better, the fuselage has doublers that run the from the trailing edge to the nose, the coating is excellent etc etc etc. It looks like a real plane and not something you just spent $60.00 on! It looks great! Thank you Jim for putting out such a great plane for the novice flyer to learn on and the more skilled to do a full pattern with. Only took me 3 hours to build and I was flying the next day. Just glue the wings on, drill the holes for the motor strap on the tank and you're flying! No more worries about smacking your airship you spent weeks building into the ground when all you want to do is learn to fly.

Jim have to say the New UKEY'S are a vast improvement from Joe's. The wings are 100% better the trailing edge is fatter I think this makes the wing a little moore stable, Dwane" s flew from the start no warps or tabs needed and the painting and covering are 1st class . Its not like a beginners plane. Super Job on this plane and I highly recommend this plane for beginners and for those of us who sport fly or even combat. Keep up the good work and thanks for continuing the UKEY Series of planes . SEE YA NEAL:)

How about "new and improved?"

I was pretty happy with Joe's work but the wings didn't slip onto the dowels with everything lined up. I had to egg out the holes to get the wings to key so they were properly aligned. A newbie could have had unpleasant results if built with no further bench trimming.

Big Joe, If I have a problem with your U Keys its that you quit building them 3 days before I wanted one. I am really happy that you got the U key going and that when you turned the business over, you turned it over to Jim Pearson. When I had a bell crank failure on my first U Key 35 Jim sent me a new one and wouldn't except any money, not even for postage. He stood behind the product even though it wasn't his fault. You bet I have ordered another U Key 35.
Thanks Jim for a great product and service. Can't wait to fly with you in Portland Joe.

The new U-key’s are an evolution from the old. As with anything new there was or is someone to cut the path. Joe needs an apology. If it weren’t for JOE,,,, and Jim,,,, there would be no U-Key’s

Jim Pearson, [email protected], has made a number of changes to the U Key 35 sense becoming involved in the U Key line of control line models. It is very apparent that he is intent on putting out the best model possible.
My first U Key 35 from Jim did feature a doubler that went well behind the wing. A nylon style bellcrank and a Monokote hinged elevator. The model did exactly what I wanted and gave me a lot of handle time with a larger model. A defect in the bellcrank led to its failure. Jim stood behind the model and replaced it. He wouldn't even except postage for shipping the new one.
My second U Key 35 came with the same doubler, a Fox metal Bellcrank, and with 1/8 inch dowelling added to the ply lead out guide to wing tip joint. I have 62 flights on this plane with an OS .40 LA for power and it is still in very good condition. I did change the Stabilizer and elevator and added nylon hinges after flight number 35 because I thought the monokote hinge was a little stiff.
I just recieved another U Key 35 that I plan on powering with an OS .25 LA and have found the following additional improvements. A lock nut and a spring retainer added to the elevator control horn clevis. A ply tab added to the elevator to reinforce where the control horm is attached. Nylon hinges in place of the monokote on the elevator, the stab and elevator covered with the same material as the wing, and the fuse painted the same color. I don't think they are ugly!
After being away from control line for about 40 years I flew a Flite Streak about 40 inches before crashing it. Scott Riese handed me a Big Joe U Key to try and I flew it. One more crashed Flite Streak and I probably would have given up and missed out on all the fun.
The U key started as a great training (fun, sport) model and it just keeps getting better. Everyone who has been involved with its design and production are quality people.

and very well worth the investment. Thanks to
you for your good work. With its range of control
adjustments, it can do anything. I even managed to
crash it and rebuild it! Its on the shop wall now
with a Stuka Stunt prepped OS 25 on board ready to go.

Jim sent me a set of replacement wings for my Ukey some time ago after it did a nose plant. Yes the covering is outstanding, Jim even let me choose a color for "OLD-AUGER". There was not much left of the old girl, but thanks to Jim she lives to fly another day.

Edit: Ukey arrived today. Absolutely fabulous!!!! Very well packed and excellent construction and finish. Amost too pretty to go out and fly and that's the whole reason I got this........so I don't have to worry about crashing it.......Thanks very much Jim.

I just got home from flying a brand new U-Key 40 . I just finished
mounting the engine and fuel tank today . I couldn't find a tank that fit like I wanted , so I cut a notch in the leading edge and
that solved my problem . I could have shortened the tank , but I was
in a hurry . I was impressed with how well it handled . It was solid as a rock . It's a definate winner for a trainer or just
"plane fun " .
