Flew ours yesterday and found it very decent. I installed an OS 46LA-S on aluminum pads, 11-5 Zinger, Sullivan clunk tank, uniflowed, CF pushrods and ball links, and Urtnowski aluminum LG. Lines .018 by ~63 feet. Wings level upright and inverted, turns pretty equal in and out, nice glide. Almost a full pattern on the third flight.

Down sides: a little light on the lines overhead. Take out the rudder offset or make it adjustable. A little slow getting into the turns, like it has to get up some momentum first. Probably a bit nose heavy. Removed heavy Tru Turn spinner and that helped. Will increase throw rate at elevator a little, then think about adding tail weight. Need to re-do clunk arrangement-getting about 6 laps of hiccups and burps at the end of the tank. Making up a new set of lines. Try some other props like the APC 11.5-4. Absolutely don't even think about using the weak elevator pushrod. And the covering material really ****s.

But overall very good with really positive prospects. We now have three that have been flown, all with the LA 46. One more is coming with a K&B 40, to be eligible for P-40 event, and another that sounds like it will have the ST 51. Total of five in the club so far. Hoping to get a group photo at our contest next weekend.

Gee Kelvin, yours looked JUST like mine!

I didn't have mine out Sunday when Kelvin brought his but had it out on the prior Wednesday. I'm using the stock LG wire and have the LA 46/MACS 6650 setup. APC 11-4 prop but think an 11.5-4 might be better.

I was having tank probs. Take off roll and 2-3 level laps then it'd quit. Does have a nice glide. Engine ran VERY well on the bench - would hold a steady needle the duration of the test tank.

In the process of changing out the stock pushrod to a CST carbon rod w/ball links. The stock pushrod is NOT acceptable. When I was filing the flat in the LG for the collar set screw the metal filed away very easily. My LG came w/black enamel finish.

Wished I had another month or so to sort it out before this weekend's contest but... It'll be there.

Definitely have to go with the group shot.

Two great minds with a single thought!

Flew someone else's Tutor the other day. The guy didn't want to stuff it on the first flight so he asked me to fly it. LA46, stock muffler. The plane flew wings level and had great though. Plane needs a tongue muffler! How Tower Hobbies decided to bundle it with a ST51 is beyond me. LA 46 is perfect for it.

If you plan to run LA46, may I suggest a prop I found to be the best for a stock LA46: APC 13.25x3.75 cut down to 12.75. Do not round off the tip. Keeps the engine in the happy RPM range.

Steve,
Don't you mean the 12.25 x 3.75 cut down to 11.75?

12.75 is a lot of prop for the 46. I'll be trying the 11.5 and 11.75, though.

Sorry for the confusion. I've been hanging aroung Super Tigre 60's lateyly a lot.

The correct prop to get is APC 12.25x3.75 and cut it down to 11.75.

Well, the new Tutor got dorked as a result of line failure. I knew better...

But with a little help from a friend, there is another one in the van.

We ended up with four at our contest this weekend, and a Tutor won P-40 on its second flight, ever. With a K&B 40, BTW.

I just swapped the 11x5 MA to an APC 12.25x3.75 cut down to 11.75 and added muffler pressure to the stock supplied tank.

We launched at 9800 RPM and flew in a blustery wind gusting to 20mph.

The LA 46 definitely liked the muffler pressure and the prop produced lap times on 63' lines of just under 5.2 seconds on Sig Champion 10% fuel with 20% castor/synth and added castor to bump up oil content to 22% I only attempted a couple of wingovers and inside loops but model really seemed solid although a bit slow on the inputs. Tops of the loops were around 60º.

I'll obviously be burning a lot more fuel this season.

I sped the elevator up on mine-it moves a good 45 degrees-and removed all possible nose weight, ie: that pretty Tru-Turn spinner. I think they are tending to run a bit nose-heavy out of the box.

Good point! Get the nose weight out of there! Someone told me that the decals that came with it are 2oz! Talk about dead weight. I would strongly suggest a tongue muffler as well. Find the lightest spinner too. Don't forget: APC props are heavy. One needs to loose the weight elsewere.
