There they were, the Veco kits reviewed, available once again. The Chief and Squaw, the whole tribe, practically. The Redskin. REDSKIN? A quick email to Larry Richards affirmed it was the same Veco Redskin Joe Wagner had designed. Only improved. Emailed Larry my phone#, and he called me. We had a great conversation, and Larry said he would wrap one and mail it, Wednesday morning. This morning I received it,in 48 hours, U.S.Priority mail.
The kit box was packed in a separate corrugated box, came out like a new one. Opening the kit was a surprise, *every layer* was separated by a sheet of bubblewrap. Wood selection was as though I had selected and matched them myself.
Ribs: Wing tapered, ribs progressive in sized pairs, remarkably consistent in cuts & quality! Orig. were 1/16", these have been uprated to 3/32", great improvement.
Sideskins: Perfectly matched, penmarked from Drafting for bulkhead placement. Mirror-match left & right. Planking sheets are of the same quality, just beautiful. Also uprated, to 3/32".
Bulkheads(formers): Individually numbered, these things stack like a Harry Higley textbook. Alignment is correct, stringers dead-center. Larry increased thickness here also, but the added mat'l weight is nullified by the lightness of better balsa.
Plywood: Not a sliver anywhere, all cuts accurate; remember, this is a Team Racer, with a 31" span. These parts are miniscule.
Plan is a nice reprint of the original, with isometrics to I.D. the parts.
I will be building this right away, so can add remarks in the conference site. The scratchbuilt version I am still cutting (!) will be re-cut in several areas now, influenced by Larry's fine work!
