Well here is another report on the Flite Streak, from the perspective of a novice. I added 2 wheel landing gear, OS 25 baffle piston, 9-6 prop, about 1 ounce in the tail. Mikey said it was an OK plane after I added some tip weight, but still light on the lines compared to the Ringmaster. He is using the inner hole on the bellcrank and outer hole on the control horn. It is a pretty light plane and now I know why.
I did a 10 foot loop on takeoff and broke the nose off. Found out that the fuselage is hollow, 1/16 sheet in fact. The doublers end at the leading edge of the wing, a real stress point. I added some 1/16 ply back a couple of inches, feathered at the aft end. I also added a capstrip of ply 1/16 by the width of the fuselage on the bottom for a couple of inches either way from the leading edge.
Here are a couple of pictures. The addition of the green really gives it a different look, IMHO. I gave up on the canopy and made one out of 1/4 balsa. It is needed to pick the plane up by.
Would I buy another? Probably not if I had the time to build one. One guy at the field crashed his and used the pieces for a pattern to make another with a solid fuselage. I guess that the labor in China or wherever must be real cheap if they go to the trouble to build up the fuselage to save some balsa.
