Egads, nice glue joints.

Couple of questions, what are the triangle stock in the tank compartment for? They are shown in the 4th picture down on the first post. Also, how do you do your engine crutch? Reason I asked is that I noticed the plywood all the way across like I do and was wondering if you do something different?

I added the small triangle scraps as a tank floor shelf.

after the crutch is together and sanded even a piece of 1/64th ply is added (as shown in the above post). This adds a little extra strength but basically it's to protect the crutch also it allows the tank to be removed more smoothly.

Please keep the pictures coming, Walter. I'm anxious to get my kit and dive in.

Nice work Walter. Especially like the nearly invisible glue joints on the fuse...that's great workmanship!

For the benefit of those who may not have seen many picture of the Colossus, I offer this excellent example, built by our own Randy Ryan. It was taken at the 2001 Brodak Fly-In. It was simple superb. Note that the canopy is mounted to a removable cover that provides access to the control system.

Definitely front row. Great job Randy.

Randy,

I believe there are pictures of Tom McClain flying his Quasar at VSC a couple of years ago while he was working on the Martin B-26 he flew this year. Just check out some of the web sites with VSC 2005 pictures.
Now Tom lives near Phoenix so I believe he will be a fixture at all the Tucson contests.

One summer Kurt, that's all it lasted and by the end of that season it was washed out like it is now. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending no how you look at it) my mishap last spring has made it necessary to refinish it, I'm thinking of a deep metalic red with some simple trim.

Please forgive me if this sounds like a silly question, but how do you get a motor inside that cowl?

Also, how is the exhaust vented? Am I right in assuming you have a RE (rear exhaust) variant of the motor with a pipe exuding under the fuselag?

Remember this was pre-muffler days, look at the top picture and you'll see the exhaust opening on the left side. Judging from the position there must have been a shaft extension used to move the engine back.
