Explaining the outrage

In Woodinville, Washington, very close to where I live, the building housing the Armadillo Barbecue has been torn down.
Please join Howard Rush and me in a moment of silence.

Must have been a gristly site.

Having lived in Georgia for many years, I can only empathize.

Gee, Bob, that was downright cruel. I mean, here these guys have lost a hallowed landmark...a place where one might go to slake one's thirst and quash one's appetite with victuals of the finest kind. Now here you are, rubbing salt on an open rib...er, wound.
My condolences, Howard and Dan. And probably Paul, too, though nobody has seen fit to mention him by this point in the thread. Condolences to you, too, Paul.

Hey Dan,
I had to do in an armadillo yesterday, he was digging wheel sized holes in my flying field so had to fix the problem by eliminating the source. If I had read this thread I would have froze and FedEx'ed him to you.
We love em' roasted too, with mint jelly.

RE: Explaining the outrage#9 source One good thing about living in Austin is that one can give directions just by referring to making turns at various barbecue places.
Armadillo does in fact taste like chichen
RE: Explaining the outrage#10 source >>Armadillo does in fact taste like chichen <<
I always here that. "It" (whatever) tastes like chicken.
Rattlesnake tastes like...well, rattlesnake.
RE: Explaining the outrage#11 sourceRandy,
Actually, I think rattlesnake tastes like squid...used to eat it often.

Actually, the Armadillo was a dive, although it was designed to be a dive, if'n ya know what I mean. I have never in my life seen so many bowling trophies and bowling shirts.
By and large their offerings were among the best of the type, especially when noting the cook was white.
They did write the most interesting things on their windows: "Cat. The other white meat," for example. Most of the stuff was quite politically incorrect, and so I loved it.
A line item on their menu went something like, "Two dollars and 83 cents worth o' stuff." The price was around five bucks. This is the sort of humor Howard and I repeat to others, not always eliciting the expected response.
There used to be a barbecue place next to the fruit stand next to the Bladder Grabber site. I knew the guy who ran it, but of course those not from this area did not know this, nor did they know the owner.
I would always grab three or four of my friends* from out of town and we would go to get barbecue. It was always a treat to feign ignorance as to who might be running the place and yell into the walk-up window, "Who runs this place? We're here for real barbecue and if there are any white folk cookin' it, we aren't interested."
The owner is a big guy. And, yes, he is black. Great cook.
The health department shut him down several years ago. Which proves that we knew good barbecue when we ate it.

*One of these times Rich Lopez was among the victims. Please do not think harshly of Rich, but he does drive a Toyota Pious. And so of course was taken aback at the barbecue stand. dan
Sounds a bit like Norm Calvin's Rib Factory in Hawaiian Gardens, California, c.1975. Best soul food in the Peoples' Republic. Wonder if it's still there.

No. Of course not. If it was as good as you say--and I trust you on these sorts of things--the place has been shut down. With extreme prejudice*.

*Uh, the legal term, not the other one. dan

I heard a yarn about Al Gore awhile back. He was a guest at a Washington State "street rod run", condemning it for political incorrectness, pollution, etc. When one of his hosts suggested Barbecue, he was to say, "Oh, no,no, that's out of the question.."

RE: Explaining the outrage#19 source Dan,
Is the "Caveman Bar-B-Que" still operating down in Kent? Went there a couple of times when we were down for contests at Boeing Space Center. Every time I ate there it was really good.

If-and-when y'all come to Tucson (as every Stunt flyer should) be sure to visit "Famous Dave's" barbeque on Oracle Road.

Still there, and highly recommended. What's not there anymore is the Boeing Space Center parking lot. Now, that's really SAD, tho I heard it claimed that it wasn't the smoothest air. I remember seeing Alan's ST .60 powered King Sized Tucker Special there. A lovely beast!

You have to get your grease somewhere - what WILL you do?! What WILL you do?! ;->
(You might consider moving to Texas, where they have REAL BBQ..?)
