Vector/ST46 Combo

I'm trying to find a new home for my ST 46. Can someone please advise me as to whether or not it will fit in one of the Vector ARF's without major modifications? Are the engine bearers wide enough? Is it too heavy?

I know from reading on here that most folks are using the Brodak 40 or Randy Smith's 36, but I have this brand new ST 46 that runs great and would like to save some money and not have to buy a new engine if possible.

I tried doing a search and came back with a lot of information on the Vectors, but could not actually find if anyone had tried this combination. I guess my other alternative would be the T/F Score, but I really prefer the appearance of the Vector.

Just my $.02...the Vector 40 is pretty narrow up front--even using a larger than drawn spinner and associated taper to the nose, it is narrow. It is also not a very large plane although it is draggy.

THe ST would loaf along in afour most of theime I think--if you have a shoehorn.

The bearers are pretty much right on for an Thunder tiger .36/ aerotiger or Ro40.

Vince,l I had a kitVector that I built from a Brodak kit. I painted this model when I was recovering from heart sugery and it got pretty heavy because I kept making mistakes when I mixed the paint. I put a Tigre 46 in it with the smallest venture that came with the engine . the plane came out very heavy and didn't fly very good so it sat on the walfor about a year so I decided to sand it and repaint. The plane still came out tail heavy, so had to add lots of nose wieght. This plane came out at 54 ounces and still flew very good. I think the venture was bored out to 97 thousands and would do the pattern on 4 and a half ounces of fuel. Before I bored it out it would run 10 min on the same amount of fuel I used an 11X 5 Zinger prop. Any Questions call me at 503-255-6471

This wasn't a Vector but may give you some ideas.

I managed to stuff a ST 46 in a Nobler ARF. Set it as far back on the motor mounts as it would go and built a cowl instead of using the fiberglass one that came with it. Mounts were not quite wide enough so I put strips of 1/16 circuit board material on the mounts and cut the top of the circuit board and mounts at an angle so the engine would go in. Didn't take that much and I would believe the Vector is wider.

Don't have a photo of the finished product handy but here is one that was taken right after I painted the nose. It ended up at 42 ounces with a tongue muffler but expect I will need to add an ounce or so of tail weight when I start trim flights.

My Vector 40 is from a Brodak kit and it is a little porky at 48 oz I use an OS40LA-S and it flies pretty good. I have also tried a OS46LA-S (which is the same physical size as the 40) and a lot of people say it's comparable to a ST46 performance wise. Food for thought if you like the plane.

Hello all.
I´ve check my Tigre 46 is a perfect fit for the ARF Vector.
I´ll use it when build the plane (along this year, expect).

I just got a ST46 today and have just compared it to my LA 46. (which is the same dimensions as a LA40)

The ST G21 46 is about 1/16" wider at the mounting lugs, about 1/8" shorter in length and about the same height.

So yes it should fit.

Well, I ordered a Vector ARF today. I'll let you know how the motor fits in there. Hopefully I won't have to do much shaving or carving.

It fits like a glove. I can't see any interference problems. The thrust washer sticks out a little too far from the cowl ring, but no far enough to be a problem for me.

Hello,I have a ST46 in my Score and after trying to trim it and make it comfortable to fly I feel it needs a bigger engine.It doesnt have it on the overhead manuvers.I have a ST 51 I may try but im leaning toward a ST60. The plane does basic manuvers well,but when it needs the power its not there. Just a thought. George Eckhardt

The score is a MUCH bigger plane than the Vector 40.

I've seen the Score fly pretty well with an LA46 but to be competitive I think it needs a 50. A 60 muffled is probably not out of the question considering the current powering trends.
