Going through and sorting out my model stuff after our recent move, I found a HUGE surprise! I have an OIB(?) (Old In Box(?)) Magnum GP 40, and I have no clue as to why or when I bought it. I have never run it, so I don’t know if it is broken in, or maybe has never been run at all! The piston and liner look factory new.

Randy 63
(Is that by chance Randy, the engine rework guru? Does ’63 seem reasonable for the year?)
If it is in the correct box, it was sent by Bradley Patrick Walker in Richardson, Texas.

Does this sound like a stock Magnum GP?
Any fuel caveats for this engine?
It has no muffler. Recommendations?
Any peculiarities I need to know about?
Larry Fulwider
My guess is that it is a Randy Smith modified motor.
He signs his motors, and the venturi sounds like one of his "true" ones. ( I think that is what he calls them)
Zero chance that 63 represents the year 1963.

Larry, Any tongue or regular muffler that fits the OSFP40 or the Tower 40 will fit the GP40. All parts are interchangable. However if it's a reworked motor and you have an 'oops' send it back to the source and let them work on it.

I believe the "63" mean that is the 63rd Magnum GP 40 that he has worked on.

Hi LArry,
From what you describe, it is an engine that Randy Smith reworked. He does sign them "Randy" and numbers them is sequence as to how many he has done of the particular engine.
Treat it like an FP 40 as to fuel, etc., since it is an Asian Rim clone of the OS engine, and it should be a very good stunt engine!
Brad Walker must have bought it originally. (??)
Of course, a phone call, or an email, to Randy would give you all the "particulars" about it.
Big Bear <><
Character: It's what you do when no one else is watching.
I have a similar engine which has an Aero Products sticker on the black box (ABC version) saying "40 Stunt".
It is a Magnum GP 40 with aluminum true venturi, an ST NVA setup but no sequencing scribed anywhere on the engine. On the underside of the starboard lug there is a factory looking "H J" stamped.
I bought the engine about 15 years ago but never have put fuel in it.

Hello Larry
That is most likley one of mine, however it is also maybe 10 years or so old,
A good setup for it is, 10% nitro 22 to 24 % oil part castor, an 11 x 6 prop, this will depend on what it is pulling but I used the same setup I just described on A SIG Chipmonk. it flew it very well. And those motor did not have much of any "runaway " in them, they produced a good mild stunt run. And were so close of a copy of the MAX FPs that the parts were interchangable
Regards
Randy
