Cincotta Plasma Piston and Liner

Hello Group;
I recently purchased a Cincotta plasma piston and liner for a Fox .35 from and very nice gentleman here on the list, Mr. Mel Duval, and I have a few questions for anybody that has a set out there.
The main question regards the wrist pin retainers. I know what a Fox .35 should have, but I don't think I see grooves for the retainers in the piston that came with the set. Bob Reeves has contacted me and thinks the set might have included a new wrist pin, but he isn't sure. I'm just looking to find out for sure what I need to do to secure the wrist pin, if I need to use the stock unit. I know there are several ways to do that, and I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
The other question just involves any kind of paper work or instructions that may have come with the set. I'm one of those non-stereotypical males who likes to read instructions!

I have the same setup. According to tony, the cyllinder is so hard that it doesn't matter if the wrist pin touches the cyllinder. It's the same situation as the hard cyllinder Johnsons. Make sure you have the special head that comes with it. There was no instructions with the unit. It was the piston, cyllinder, head, and gasket. The stock head won't work with the new cyllinder.

Hi Phil; Thanks for the quick reply! I was thinking that might be the case. I got the head and the shims with it also. I guess it would still be prudent to make sure that the wrist pin has a nice, smooth, polished radius on it though. I'll have to dig through my box and find a suitable engine for this. I haven't had the chance to really look at the parts yet and I'm kind of intriqued about this set up. I'll probably use it on an old tyme model, so I oonly have to take one kind of fuel to most contests.

Nope, there is no need to polish the wrist pin, unless you really want to. I thought the same thing, I now have about 45min on mine, took the head off, nada, nil, zilch on wear marks.

There is no room to put teflon pads in the piston,and the wristpin is a solid pin(not hollow) so a hat shaped one is out of the question, and if you shorten the pin, there will not be enough bearing surface area in he piston to prevent excessive wear. I also have one that I have been running for a couple of years now and it probably has around eight to ten hours on it and is still holding good compression. That would indicate that there is little or no wear from the wristpinto the cylinder.

If you are really concerned, get a wristpin from an early Fox 35 of any sort that has brass end pads. I picked up a pair from Xbay.

I would think that would also have the problem that Marvin pointed out.

Right! To get the coating on the sleeve, the bore diameter is reduced so that there is very little room. I contacted Tony about this and he assures me that the Plasma is so hard, there is not problem. I have a few more hours on mine than Marvin, and no problems. The reduced bore makes it a Fox 32 or so. Not as much power as a Larry Foster (or Marvin Denney) iron piston Fox 35, but it will run on the same fuel as my FP20 and makes less mess on the airplane.

For mine, I bought a 50th anniversary case and used the rest of the parts from a standard Fox Stunt I had. I like the muffler mounts on the new case.

If you don't need clips or pads, then you have the opportunity to use a longer wrist pin for best load bearing on the piston boss. I don't know what could be made to fit, maybe a Fox 40 pin, but might be worth a try. Then you would have enough lenght to round off and polish. Maybe not nessasary but, fun.
