Merco 40

What is the general opinion on the latest Merco 40. Do they seem to work well for stunt "out of the box"? Or, do they need some tweaking and rework. I haven't seen much written about Mercos and they are kinda pricey to just blindly buy and try.

Why would they require any rework when they were designed from the outset as a stunt engine and nothing else?

This might sound a bit sarcastic but it's not meant to be - just a statement of fact.

I belive the gent making them has a fine product. There was a surgical supply that made them for Hobby Lobby that had hit and miss quality, but new ones are good. Ian Russel is a good guy. I am working on a .30 size Speed Wagon thanks to Ian suppling carved body.

Have been running one of them for a while now and couldn't wish for an easier starting and smooth running engine.

The larger 61 size which I have only run for one session in a 56 oz "Walker" Mustang is also showing easy handling and great power, in fact a bit to much switch on 5% nitro. On UK Ray Lloyd's suggestions I'm going back to standard FAI 4:1 mix.

Both of these engines are straight out of the box without any mods....... well, I did make a slightly longer venturi on the 61 with the same bore although Ian guaranteed that the short stock one worked perfectly.

Prop on 40 is Eather 10.75 x 5.5 2 blade C/F and the 61 is running on an 11.5 x 5.5 3 blade Eather C/F.

Give them a go and you will not be disappointed.

PS. JUST READ DANKAR'S POST. DO NOT GET THE RUSLER/MERCO ENGINES CONFUSED WITH ANY PREVIOUS ENGINE WITH A MERCO NAME! THEY ARE NOT THE SAME ENGINE!

Thanks for the other info guys. I might have to try one.

The exchange rate here in OZ makes them a little expensive at A$300 for the 61 and I can't remember the price of the 40 as that was a couple of years back now. If the engine works in "out of the box" configuration then the price is right. Also, if you can get the power without much nitro the extra cost is offset.
