I was wondering if anyone knew how an OS 10 FP-s or LA 10 with fp venturi and needle would compare power-wise to a fox 15x slant plug. They seem to be very comparable in weight and mounting foot print is very similar. I have a JR Nobler with a Fox 15x with muffler and was wondering how the 10 would be. Maybe better on fuel??? I only have room for the original Veco 1.3 oz. tank. I could use more modern (and available) fuel.....The 10 is rated at .27 hp I think.
Engine question.

I have a Fox 15X on a Flying Clown, 8.5-4 Rev Up, 012 x 60'. The OS 10 probably has about the same hp but I would suggest an 8-3 and spin it to maybe 12K rpm. I have seen people try OS LA 15's and the have plenty of power but are nose heavy. The OS LA 15 is about 5.5 oz, Fox 15X is about 3.5 oz so the OS 10 would be about the right weight, without having to add tail weight. Give it a try. Let us know.

I've no experience of the Fox 15 but I've had an OS 10 LA in a UK Peacemaker (approx 300 sq in, profile, flapless) and it was more than up to the task on 52 foot 0.012s
My only gripe about the 10 LA is that I had difficulty starting it - once I could get fuel to stay in the line from the needle to the venturi it started well, but getting the fuel to stay between the remote needle and the venturi was painful. Of course an electric starter might have solved the problem, but it's a half mile hike from our car park to the flying site, so kit weight is a bit of an issue.
From what I've seen of the OS 10 LA and it's remote needle it might be more suited to inverted operation, certainly if you're planning on hand starting it.

I have a la 10 on a ringmaster jr and it has all the power i need. i have been flying on 55' of .15. i am gonna make a set of 12's to fly with in the near future. IMO i think the 10 has just as much power as the fox 15. I am running the prop that is required for breakin. Only prob i have is mine likes to flood very easy but im still using the rc carb to.

I also had put a Ring Jr together for nostalgia and flew it with an OS 10 FP on a 7/4 and 10/25 fuel. It's on 52' 012's and I have to admit that it is slightly faster then the Fox 15. I'll use longer lines if I fly it again. Another thing this motor is an absolute joy to start, regular NVA at the venturi and is a miser on fuel. The Fox is a real fuel hog compared to the OS. I don't use the muffler as we don't need them where we fly.
By the way cool picture.

I have an old much abused Flite Streak Jr. that has flown ( and crashed) with bith the Fox 15X and the OS 10. The Fox with the stock muffler is a bit lighter than the OS with its stock muffler and R/C carb. Flying performance is almost identical, the OS seems to like a 7X3 better than the 8 x 4 I was using on the Fox.
I fly it on 52' X .012 lines, great trainer plane with either engine.

If it's broke, fix it.
If it aint broke - let me see it for a minute

I have a Magician was using a Fox .15 steel fin, this is the older engine I think and also using a OS .10 FP, both seemed to work fine and were close enough in bolt hole patterns. I like others used a 7X3 I think on the .10 and was using a 8x4 on the old Fox. The OS I used a 1 1/4oz tank and I had plenty of run time with it.
