VSC 19 March 14 - 17, 2007; 4 weeks away.

The first day of VSC 19 is four (4) weeks away. Starting March 14th, 2007 the 19th running of VSC will take place in Tucson, AZ at Christopher Columbus Park.

March 7th, 2007 is the cut off date for registration and is only three weeks away. If you have not sent in your registration form and you plan on attending VSC 19, now is the time to do so. Pre-Registration is required.

The Registration form and contest flyer are available on the Cholla Chopper Web Site and a short version of the flyer with registration form was published in the January / February issue of Stunt News.

Mail all entries to Jim Hoffman. His address is on the flyer along with his phone number and e:mail address.

Could be worse, Dan. We could be in Ohio, upstate New York, or (gasp!) Indiana. At least we won't be scraping ice off the scoreboard (we hope)...as seen here at the SW Regionals in January.

Andy: Not nearly as much trouble as folks in the rest of the country, who can't even step outside now, much less test-fly. Pretty much negates all that cr#p about "global warming", doesn't it?

Mike and Andy,
You have to have some pity on us in the North. I have the skis on my Ringmaster, but have not had it warm enough or calm enough to get in some additional flights. Normally cold does not bother me, nor does wind, but if you put the two together, fogettaboutit..... Keeping my fingers crossed for a couple more trim flights before the trip. Any practice spots away from the field Mike to get the kinks worked out?

John...no other practice spots that I'm aware of. However, please note that on Old Time days (Wed. & Thu.) the grass practice circles will be open to OTS competitors only --- no Classic flights on those mornings, per the CD and his assistant.

Plenty of opportunity also, for those who arrive a day or two before the VSC begins.

It is great building weather in Ks. too. Just finishing up installing a new wing in my Dragon that I crashed a few years ago. Lines connected backwards does not work for me. Funny thing was, when Marvin released the plane, I knew it was backwards and proceded to give it down to kill it. Did about 15 loops before I pancaked it in. Didn't hurt anything but the wing. Dragons, being low wingers are pretty easy to replace. Just putting the finishing touches on now. Now I can't decide which of my old time planes to bring. We plan on being there on about the 10th, and hope we have some good weather for some practice. We are going to have fun!!!

I put in my leave form for that weekend. Also deperately trying to get an old-timer built in time.

Well guys, to my fellow Knights of the circle in the fridget north I do feel pity for you, as was requested. I also feel a lot better knowing I am not the only one starting to feel desperate. I am looking at the situation this way, somebody has to finish last it might just as well be me. If the weather holds and the Santa Ana winds don't blow me out I should get in some trim flights this weekend. I still haven't committed to memory the Old Time pattern, speaking of which, could one of you guys list the Old time pattern in the order the stunts are done for me. My mentor Larry Renger is heading to Philly leaving me on my own to practice.

Anyway lets all say a pray for good weather from now until the end of VSC.

Per Uncle Mikey's suggestion, break the OTS pattern down into elements of 3 for ease of memory:
Takeoff, signal, level flight (don't forget to signal the judges)
Climb, dive, wingover
Inside loops, outside loops, inverted flight
Horizontal eights, vertical eights, overhead eights
Square loop, landing.

There are also some uniques variations in the OTS pattern from the standard PAMPA pattern.
1. You must signal the judges at the start of the pattern
2. There are 5 inside & outside loops instead of 3
3. There are 3 figure 8's instead of 2.
4. You only fly 2 laps inverted.
5. Only 1 square loop, and it is really a rectangle.

Did I mention that you must signal the judges?

Entries and exits of maneuvers are different.
Oh, and you must signal the judges.

It appears like Daylight Savings Time begins the weekend before VSC-19. Since Arizona does not observe DST, please note that published starting times at the VSC are Mountain STANDARD Time.

Will there be someone at VSC selling Fox 35 blend with 15% nitro? I think someone said it would be available. At sea level my Fox run just fine on 5% but I was told at Tucson altitude 15% is better. Now that I think of it, I think it was you that warned me of the thinner air.

Buy the way th Stuka flew the pattern today, such as it was. I was very happy. Heck I am sure it was a solid 250 points, OK I know I am bragging!

I wish all you guys a fantastic VSC.
Actually I had planned for another visit this year. I had built a model especially for this event.
Last week I went to the Stuttgart airport to get information about model box transport. I asked several people. The content of all answers was about "forget it !".
I have given up. I cannot see a possibility to transport my model (except for air fright, of course. But I'm not a millionaire ). Which means: I'll never be able again to travel to a foreign country contest which requires airline travel.
Now this doesn't completely break my heart. After all I've had wonderful days in your country several times in the past. But I wonder how this problem can be solved in the future for World championships.
Anyway - enjoy Tucson. I'll miss it!

Excalibur Fuels (Mark Smith) will be on-site with fuel for sale in many blends, including your choice of nitro and lube content. It might be a good idea to contact him in advance (like NOW) with your needs. I just sent you an e-mail with his e-address.

So sorry to hear you will not be here this time. We do understand the difficulties associated with air shipments these days. Is there a chance that you know someone who has "connections" with someone in upper management at Lufthansa? That person may solve your problem.
