Updates on my build of the All American Eagle

For those who may be interested, I'll post some pictures of the final finishing on my version of Dave Gierkes AAE. I posted these same pics on another forum, but since some of my friends don't go there, I decided to post them here as well.

Number 1 shows the flying surfaces covered in Silk Span.

Number 2 shows Monokote applied over the Silk Span.

Number 3 Shows some of the prep work for the painted fuselage.

Number 4 shows the completed color coats. The plane weighs 31.5 oz's at this point. Projected finish weight is ~48 oz's.

Numbers 5 The Navy doesn't have any lettering on the top of the Blue Angels planes, and I wanted to simulate that scheme.

Good looking plane John. I sure like the cab-forward look. Whats going to power it, and what is the w/s?

I'm just about done sanding primer. Finished the basic sanding today and hit the low spots with some more primer. I'll sand those out tomorrow and shoot a coat of 70% thinned clear. A bit of clean up and I should be ready for color.

Then the adventure begins.

John,
I'm curious -
How many coats of clear did you put on the silk span before applying the MonoKote?
I used Polyspan on my Stiletto and covered it w/Ultracote. I found that, Polyspan being porous until well doped, two or three coats of clear still allowed some "air leakage" when applying the Ultracote and trapped air bubbles were not a problem, at all. Wing is very strong!
Just curious.
