On line Vendors?

I am a newbie to the C/L side of model aircraft. If you have read any of my previous threads, you will realize that I have been involved in R/C pattern and scale for more then 30 years and currently about to make the switch to C/L stunt. Since R/C seems to be more popular then C/L, there are an abundance of on line vendors from who you can get just about anything that you need. Since I am new to this area of the sport, I have not found too many places on line that have much of a selection of engines. I am looking for a good .40 - .46 engine, the brand of engine that I am familiar with is OS. I have also contacted Brodak in regards to their .40 engine and have been told that this engine will not be available until around Feb '08.

Where do all of you get your equipment from? Local hobby shops or on line vendors?

I read this and your other submission. It seems that you need to find a nearby C/L club to get their help. Where are you located?

I have tried to find a club that is local to where I live. The closest one that I have found is located about 35 miles from my house. There are a couple of clubs that are closer, but they don't support C/L flying at their field. Anyway, I live in Milford Michigan, a suburb of Detroit.
I will continue to try to find someone who is a little closer to me, but if not, I may have to drive the 35+ miles to the nearest C/L club.

i don't think that I have ever driven less than 35 miles. Go for it!

There are three guys that fly in the Fenton/Holly area, but generally come up to Flint to fly with the rest of us. As a matter of fact, we will be flying at Broome Park on New Years Day if you are interested. Feel free to PM me if you have additional questions.

To fly, I ordinarily drive one way 49 miles across the most congested mid-size city in the USA. Usually no problem with snow, however.

Hi Tom,
Tower Hobbies is as good a place as any to get an OS LA-46. It is a good running engine, even better if you replace the remote needle with a standard one. For kits, sshobbies has good prices and excellent customer service.

I've personally ordered from RSM, Randy Smith, Windy Urtnowski, S&S, CLC, John Lowry, Hobby People, Tower Hobby, Hobby Club, Larry Richards Kustom Kits, Leonard Neumann/Stuka Stunt Werks, Hobby Lobby, UHP, APC, Richard Oliver, and Frankie Carlile, all by email/online sales, and with very few problems. It's why I can barely get the door to my shop open.

Phil Brown's list of CL Links will put you right onto most of these. You might find a few more on our club site, of which I am the web'ster. If you need foam wings, Crist Rigotti is da man. I have not ordered direct from Brodak.com, but would if I had to. If I really need a custom kit, I can maybe finagle Pat Johnston to draw it up in CAD, sell me the disc, and I can get Tank or RSM to laser cut it for me. Nothin' could be finer than a controlliner...
