Guy's I am looking for some 5-40 x 1 1/4" allen socket screws. I found some at the price of .39 ea in lots of ten, plus shipping.

Thanks guy's, I went to Mc Master-Carr and the 5-40 vary in thread length from 3/4" to 1 3/16" with no guanteree of the 1 3/16" length of threads. Will keep looking. Using these for axel's on L/G w/ wheel pants...

Larry, I went to the local Ace and told the gent what I was looking forand he asked "Is that metric?" I told him that it is a #5 machine screw with 40 threads per inch. But, they didn't have them anyway...

Hey, mind describing your set-up? Does 5-40 fit something generally, like brass tubing, or is it strictly for a specific set of wheel pants? or??

There is a certain GPS directed artillery shell that uses 5-40 screws to hold on the nosecone. Only place, other than C*X that I have ever seen the call-out.

#5-40 UNC (same diameter as 1/8" BSW) fits 5/32" brass tubing which has a bore of 1/8". Great for bushing plastic hub wheels.

Larry, I am using them because they fit in side the 1/8" I D brass tubing that I use as wheel bearings in the plastic wheel hubs.
They fit just right.
Dale G also told me about 3mm bolts located in the car section of hobby shops. Will look at them also...

Eyeballing it, I thought (hoped) that might be the case! That is a great tip, as other combos are off a tad. I couldn't find the specs to confirm the fit, but your hands-on experience is better confirmation than comparing numbers.

None of the suggestions that anyone has given here appear to be any cheaper. Some are far more expensive. I did some looking, too, and didn't come up with any good alternatives. However...
Since you are wanting to use these as axles with an 1/8 inch bushing, Matt uses 4-40 bolts on his planes with wheel pants. You just put the next smaller tube over the 4-40 bolt and make it a bit wider and then tighten it down so it doesn't turn. You now have a smooth surface on the axle for the bushed wheel that you are wanting to use, and you can use more readily available (and somewhat cheaper) 4-40 bolts.

Have found some stainless in the car section, lot more than 39 cents per screw and the longest I could find was only 3/4 inch. would like to get some 1 1/4 titanium 5-40 screws but that is like finding a stock Fox 35 that doesn't shake or burp.
