The pipe and the model are the giveaway. Hal DeBolt. Late 50's is my guess.

Yeap, Harold Debolt in 1955/6 with his Live wire Cruiser in Greensboro N.C. Here are some more debolt models and a little history I wrote. The last 4 pics are of Harold and his personal planes that he was promoting at the time, the cruiser and the champ. I know it is RC but Hal had a hand in all of it. Really enjoyed those pictures, and the trip down memory lane!
I was still flying C/L in Denver the late fifties, and very nearly took a stab at R/C, when a friend built a very impressive Live Wire.
Found an eight channel (Bramco?) reed radio system at a local hobby shop, and immediately made a down payment to hold it. However, after some sole searching (1 daughter, and another baby on the way), the wife and I decided we really couldn't afford the radio, so I let it go.
That was probably a very good thing, as those reed systems were not very reliable, and rubber powered escapements required strict attention to detail to minimize malfunctions. Years later, I did finally get into R/C with a beautiful Futaba 7 channel AM, and enjoyed that phase of the hobby for many years.
Still have a few R/C airplanes in the garage, but want to try C/L again, because I've never forgotten the fun we had flying stunt, or at least making an attempt.
