I had posted before about having a problem getting Powermaster fuel in my area. I tried a shop in Harrisburg,Pa the Hidden Hanger Hobby shop, PH 717 565 1188 and they got it for me. They are great people to deal with. So I ordered an Evo 36C/L from them . Now for the point of this post. I guess that a lot of you know that both Horizon and Great Plane carry the stuff , they just don't seem to advertise it. Particularly Great Pain. They will also not sell it to an individual purchaser so you have to get it from your local hobby shop. That is if I'm to believe their web sites
So If you need fuel and your hobby shop says they don't carry it tell them to order it from their supplier Horizon or G/P and they will get it.
Oh and expect fuel prices to rise. The cost of nitro has gone up. Powermaster is great fuel and I've used it for about 10 years and really did not want to switch to another brand

A gallon of nitro lasts me about 4 years. I went to order a gallon of nitro the other day. VP fuels won't sell by the gallon anymore and they only sell to "Racers". To become a racer you have to fill out paperwork and then can only buy nitro at a race track.
So, I called my old stand by FHS. $50 for the nitro and $100 for the shipping because, they can't send it ups. But, ups will ship 80% nitro mixed with 20% methanol, which I believe is much more flamable, for the normal $10 shipping.
Even though there's 1/5th less nitro, the FHS charges $60 a gallon for the mixture.
All sounds perfectly reasonalbe to me since nitromethane is the same as nitroglycerin in derwood brain. I wonder what I'll have to do in 2012.

When Iand a flying buddy were running Tartan Twins heavily we bought Menthanol by the 55 gallon drum at 48 cents a gallon, we didn't keep the drum but broke it down into 5 gallon containers and didn't pay the drum fee. Nitro was $38.00 a gallon and we didn't use any in the twins but did in the singles with reduced compression. Oil was $69.00 a case.
Hard to believe that I'd go through that much in a summer but a Super tartan twin fully worked out used a minimum of 50 oz a flight.

The Speed Shop in town sells nitromethane by the gallon. They have 2 kinds. One mixes only with gasoline the other mixes only with alcohol. Price is about $50.00 per gallon plus sales tax. The farm supply store sells 100% pure caster oil for $12.00 per gallon. 100% Alcohol at the tire store is $4.00 a gallon. If you want to make 10% nitro fuel buy 1 gallon of nitromethane, 3 gallons of caster oil, 6 gallons of alcohol. That comes to $55 + $39.50 + $24 = 118.50 or $11.85 per gallon.
I use to buy alcohol from Nashville Chemical Supply Co. in 55 gallon drums it is a little cheaper than the tire shop and the chemical company makes free deliveries once a week.
The local hobby shop sells 10% nitro 18% oil fuel for about $14.50 plus sale tax. That was the price last summer not sure what it is now. I have to add caster oil so that makes the price about $16.00 per gallon plus sales tax.
When I use to race go-carts I use to mix my own fuel. For 1 or 2 gallons of model airplane fuel per year I buy at the hobby shop and add oil.
