Mike, ST .51. Reason...Cost,reliability and ease of opperation. Also if I put it straight in at the Dust Devils parking lot you and Dave would hold my hand while I cried.

McCoy .49 Red Head glow.

Why? It'd be so cool in a Stuntwagon 58.

Chance of finding one? About the same as winning the Lottery.

PA61SE Why mess around. Yes it's a little more expensive than something like an ST51 but will outlast 6 of them and give more controllable power and greater selection of props that can be used for a given airframe. Weight is very litte difference. The service and information available from Randy Smith makes the difference in price well worth it. Get one, run it like Randy says and I promise you will be forever grateful.

Ditto on the PA 61 (and I've enjoyed the ST .51 as well, but no contest).

Hi Mike

I guess my replies to you got sent to your junk email box or something, Can you check and see? or if you need to approve my address so you can see my emails please let me know.

The 3 emails you sent were #1 asking for a CNC Tube muffler for a Jenn 56 that have a span of 1.475 inches.

I wrote back and told you that I do not make one for that span, I have 1.51 and 1.455, that is as close as I have. When we run more I can have a blank left over and drill it for you to that span.

Email two was asking me about if I knew anyone that has retimed the Jen 56 engine.

my reply, I am sorry I have never had one of those in my shop and do not know of anyone who has worked with these motors

email 3# I recieved from you today asking about, are PA 51s side Exhaust engines are in stock. my reply was
I am waiting on the next run of piston\sleeves for the 51, I have 61s and 65s here in stock.
I should have 51 side ex back in stock in about 2 to 3 weeks

If you are not receiving my replies please email back to me and let me know, we can then find out what the problem is, and I will do what I can to fix it

Regards
Randy

Why stop at a PA .61 when Randy makes a .65????I bought a PA .65 Side Exhaust & it ain't no Passive Violet.

I haven't quite yet appropriated the coin for a PA engine ( a .61 or
.75) which would be my first choice - but a Super Tigre .51 is an excellent value especially when ring is replaced with a Bowman and if Mr. Lay reworks it.
IMHO

Ever notice how a thread will steadily creep. The thread started out asking about a 50 side exhaust. We are now up to a PA 75

Soon we will be at the new Stalker 80, and more than likely we will finish up with the Saito 91!!!

It is not so much size, but something else that some people missed here.

The question was: "If you could have any SE engine in the .50 something disp..." Now "50 something" does leave room for a little wiggle here and there, and when looking at the PA series of engines, the 50, 61, and 65 all fit in the same mounting holes and have very little weight differential. And actually, there isn't that much difference in cost, either.

But the real part of the question that I saw was "if you could have any SE engine". Some people have responded by saying they can't afford the more expensive engine or something to that effect. But "IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY ENGINE..." That was the question. If someone was going to give you the engine--if cost is not a factor--then what? What would be your engine of choice? My answer, too, would be one of the PA series of engines. (Now, ask me what car I would choose "If I could have any car...")

Now if you were funding the purchase yourself from the proceeds of your paper route (that's how I started out), or if you are still pounding the engine(s) into the pavement, or if you were only buring a gallon or two of fuel a year, then a less expensive engine might be your engine of choice. But if you are flying a lot, even when you are buying it yourself, this still would be my answer.

In terms of the over all picture, what does your airplane cost you? What about your transportation? What does 60 or so gallons of fuel cost? (That is what it is going to take to wear one of these out). And when you have worn one out, you can overhaul it for less than the cost of a reworked ST 51 and do it all over again. They are a little like the energizer bunny. They keep going and going and... (OK, commercial over. You can send the check to my home, Randy.)

(Disclaimer: I have no commercial interests in any of the above statements or endorsements.)

Ok, thinking about it that way, as in free, then a PA .65 wuld be obvious.

ST .46. Not just any one, the one that Kaz Minator had on his Shark many years ago at VSC. It sounded like bubbling water, and had the perfected Stunt Run. Those engines are not very powerful, but they are torquey.

Sure the PA .51 came up but since the .65 weighs the same & cost a little more i doubt the buyer would put his head in the sand .... So why be stuck with numbers when they weight & cost nearly the some. Pretty much a no brainer pull test is equeal. The PA .75 is heavier I'm pretty sure I've weighed mine but forget.

The PA 75 is about an ounce heavier and slightly wider in the case at the mount area (beefier crank and bearings). The mounts can be slotted to drop in, however, but I, too, was sticking with the 51-65 series following the premise of the original question.

PA 65.....

Uses a standard 7 ounce tank, is interchangeable between anything from the OS 40/46 and all PA's from 51 to 65 and just flat out works. You can go piped or Randy's muffler system.
