POSSIBLY THE BEST BI-SLOB FLIGHT EVER--video link

We all converged on West Michigan Smoke Rings flying site in Kalamazoo this weekend for the first in a series of "TOUR D' MICHIGAN" events we're having this year.
The events on the menu for the day were:

STUNT
1/2A rat race
.35 race
Slalom
Combat
and Balloon Bust

Balloon bust always involves crashes so I made sure to have my cam corder ready.

John Paris and I have been fooling around with Bi-Slobs for about 4 years now and we've developed a few tricks we do with them. One of our favorites is "REACH and GRAB". We did it in the balloon bust and it worked out to be a very entertaining flight. Possibly one of the best Slob flights ever. You be the judge. Here is the link to the video.

Actually it is. PA requires the safety strap, and although I do think this was "not just possibly, but the best" I've ever seen, I am sure Balloon Bust doesn't

From The AMA Control line general rules.

You will notice that the Safety Thong is required for ALL control line events except Racing events.

4. Safety Thongs. A safety thong
connecting the handle of the Control
Line models to the pilot’s wrist, and
strong enough to prevent accidental
release of the model, shall be worn
during all flights of Control Line events
except all Racing events. The safety
thong should have a minimum amount of
slack to preclude accidental release or
interfering with the controls. Releasing
the controls during flight or before the
model has come to a complete stop shall
constitute a foul if the safety thong
restrains the model and lines from flying
free; if the contestant releases the
controls and the safety thong during
flight or before the model has come to a
complete stop, the contestant shall be
barred from further participation in the
event and all of his previous flights
canceled. In those events not requiring
the use of a safety thong, releasing the
controls during flight or before the
model has come to a complete stop shall
bar the contestant from further
participation in the event and void his
previous flights in the event. The safety
thong may be a point of attachment for
conducting the pull test or the thong may
be tested separately from the test of
control handle, lines, and control
mechanism. When the thong is tested
separately, it must be pulled to the test
load specified for the particular model
involved. The method of thong
attachment shall also be able to
withstand the required pull test. Failure
to use a safety thong in those events for
which they are required shall constitute a
foul. Although safety thongs are optional
in Racing events, their use is encouraged
in all events, particularly when Junior
and/or Senior fliers are involved.

What they were doing in the video is AMA event 333 it's in the AMA rule book under Control Line Special Events "Dive Bombing and Strafing" and must comply with all AMA control line saftey rules.

I'd also consider that ANY event at a sanctioned event would have to comply with ALL AMA saftey rules under the General control line section of the rule book. Otherwise no insurance coverage by the AMA.

That's nice.....not to denegrate anyone's effort but you need to see Marvin Denny fly his if you really want to see what can be done with one. Sorry but no comparison.

Totally agree. I saw Marvin Denny and Jim Lee fly their Bi slobs together. It was with out a doubt the best Bi-slob flight ever. It's absolutely amazing what BigIron can do with a fox and a Bi-Slob and Jim Lee is no slouch.

I did like the reach and grab trick though.

We need some video's of this.

Hmm, a new event, Video Bi-Slobbing. Let's have a cutoff date, say a month from now (June 11). Submit the video's to YouTube. Need to figure out some judges, or maybe just a poll. Sounds like fun. Have to start practicing.

Hate to bust your bubble guys,but the best flights ever put on with a bi-slob was the guy who designed it Ron Pavloer.From daytona beach fla.
He was able to do stuff that was uncanny. Ask Les Mcdonald or Gene Shafer or Tom Dixon.He could do squares 2 foot all around,bring the plane down slow inverted put the stab on the ground and slowly rise up at 45 degrees.He used to bring the plane to a stop i used to get and hold it then let it go. Totatly amazing.

I think a video Bi-Slob contest would give everyone with a Slob a chance to compete no matter where in the world they are. We live in the electronic age anyway.
To sweeten the pot there should be an entry fee. Winner take all. I could use the money.

I've seen both Jim and Marvin do all these things. I've even seen Jim do most of them while lying down...in a patch of good ole Oklahoma bullhead stickers

Well, now, Frank...... I did like the catch and release... But why were you flying so high.... and all those level laps..?
Maybe I will have to find room for my poor ol Slob and meet you at SIG..?!!! How about that.... How about we back up to one of the hangers and have a go........? Now if we can get Marvin there...

Shoot Jim --you're on. But why back up to a hangar? In the winter I just fly the Slob sittig in my truck with the heater blasting and the window down.

Bravo! Absolutely a great video and looked like tons of fun. You should try that with your LA Heat....ha ha.....just kidding. I think it is going to take Dave as long to build his heat as it did you.
