Once again I have to post asking people to make sure your real name and city/state are included in your profile and you have a correct e-mail address there as well. We have recently had a rash of new users who have not included their city/state in their profile and a couple who didn't bother with their real name.

In addition I just locked another user out who deliberately faked his name and changed to a fake e-mail address. This will automatically cause you to be locked out as I cannot notify you of your infraction.

Yes, these are requirements of this forum. No, the general public does not have access to this information--only those who register and are logged on. For your benefit I do not allow anonymous users to have access to this information.

And, no, this is not negotiable. Log on to the forum (If you haven't already). Click on the user menu at the top. Check the options on the left hand side. Update your information--your real name, your city/state, and make sure that your correct e-mail is up to date along with any other choices you wish to make (such as setting the time zone and setting the forum to display all posts, not just the last 30 days which is the default).

Len,

I wasn't going to reply, as I thought it was unnecessary. Then I noticed that none of the "newest members" since you posted this latest request, has bothered to comply. This has been almost universally true since you first posted on the subject several months ago.

Incidentally, my info is current.

The way to stop this is only approve them if the info is correct. I do this on Stunt Hangar or my numbers would be much higher.

Len allows automatic approval for new members if they have a valid email addrerss. What some abusers do is enter the correct email address, get the email containing their password, and then immediately change it on line.

What we do now is track all new users by IP address, and bounce that against the log. If something looks suspicious, an email goes out to the current email address. If it bounces, access is yanked. After that, the IP address is tracked. If it shows up again, it is blocked at the domain level. The list is not large, as the vast majority of people are sincere, honest, and respectful of the few rules on SSW.

That makes the board worth while. And, dealing with the few who can't abide by the rules doesn't take much effort.

How does that work with AOL. AOL changes the IP address all the time?

Why am I seeing all the new registering members with no city/state info in their profile???

Just checked, and I'm O.K.

Couldn't locate a means of editing the profile, if I needed to.
Maybe some had that problem as well?

You might be interested in this, you might not, you may already know about this. Wabash river at Mt Carmel Illinois is at 31 ft now. Water is all the way up to the metal railroad track rails on the railroad bridge. The river is expected to crest Sunday June 15 at 35 ft. Wow that will put 4 ft of water over the railroad bridge. Water is almost all the way up to the traffic bridge. Traffic bridge is blocked and only a few cars 1 lane of traffic is allowed to cross at a time. East Mt Carmel is under water. Levee broke at Lawrenceville flood water covered 75 miles of land last week. Tomorrow you probably won't be able to get in or out of Mt Carmel until the water goes down. I don't recall ever seeing the water this high. Spring of 1972 or 1973 can't remember which I remember the water being about 3 ft from the bottom of the railroad bridge and it was the highest I had ever seen it then. I was going to visit my Father in Mt Carmel today he called with this information and said, don't come you probably can't get here and you sure won't be able to get here or leave tomorrow. I have some relatives in Fairfield they say the water in the Little Wabash is higher than it has ever been much of the farm land is under water.

As of 6/18/08 our "newest member" shows no city or state in his profile.

Typical. That's why I put this up there. NOBODY reads the user agreement, even though it is short. So I have to keep chasing people.

Rather than waste your time chasing them, just lock 'em out 'til they comply. Then when they ask why they can't access the Members Only portions, you've got 'em.

I looked at my member count and it was 2081 but my forum only shows 1637 members. I am sure its the same was here on SSW. The reason for this is If the name is not correct aka (benjemandover) or something to that effect its goes into limbo and is not approved. I approve manually every morning and evening.

The games that are played on the internet. Here's one that happened. A member had all the right info so he was approved. In 10 Min a SPAM message appeared on the board. Needless to say that member was locked out.

We have locked out several people who have been caught "playing games". We lock out the account and then lock them out at the IP address. They can still come in from another computer and start a new account, but that is the only way back in--other than coming to me and saying they will abide by the rules. I have let a number of people back in who agreed to abide by the rules and most do. Only a couple of them had to be removed again.

Bart, you have to add this yourself or send me your password and I will do it for you. Otherwise I have to reset the password and then give it to you.

Log on to the forum. Click on the user menu at the top. Click on the choices on the left to see what choices you hve. Update your information with your real name (you did that), your city/state, and make sure that your correct e-mail is up to date. There are other choices such as time zone, having the forum show all posts and not just the last 30 days which is the default, etc.
