Sig Has New Nitro Source

Mike L, of Sig, posted over on RC Hangout that Sig has found a source for nitro. Supposedly to arrive next week and they will start mixing fuel immediately.

Fuel in general has gone up to $23/gal. We need to get our engines running on NO nitro as per Europe.

You must be in a foriegn country like California, it's still about 15.00-17.00 here in the midwest. I talked a R/C shop in Il down to 10.00 a gal for the 2gls of Powermaster GMA 5/22.

I am in the foreign country of California and paid $13 for a gallon of Powermaster 10/18 yesterday .

I don't think its nitro running the cost of fuel up as much as it is increased shipping costs. Besides, I like nitro. Its good stuff. I don't want to be like the Europeans. They probably pay twice as much as us for their no nitro fuel.

If it comes to it, I will modify my motors to use 40% fuel and insist on paying $50.00 per gallon for the stuff just to *not* be like the Europeans.

If someone wishes to use no-nitro fuel I don't think the technology--which is basically more squeeze--is beyond any decent modeler.

Hmmm, in reviewing the above I do think it worth noting that Howard Rush was able to sell me both a "Team USA" hat and T-shirt during a recent flying session.

The shirt and hat have the word "France" on them, meaning among other things that Howard can be one heck of a salesman.

Truly an international hat. "Team USA" logo, contested in "Landres, France" and made in "Cambodia". It's a nice hat but I would have paid $10.00 more for one made in the USA. It does fit nice and almost everyone was wearing one at the Stuntathon. That Howard has a strong arm and charm to go with it.

Nitro--Not all Nitro is created equal. Two years ago some of the far east imported nitro was eating the seals and more out of some of the Top Fuel pumps. That is first hand experience talking. The fuel was sourced from the guy that makes those battery changers and has a really big race team.

I work with SNECMA in Villaroche (outside Paris)and I travel there on business occasionally. Nice place, nice people. Most of my disagreements with the French are that I'm not into eating dinner at ten, sipping small cups of explosive coffee or having raw eggs on my pizza. Not that there's anything wrong with those things, but theres a better way (like putting nitro in fuel). As for politics, for now, I subscribe to the glass house philosophy and I don't think I'll be picking up stones anytime soon.

I've managed to stockpile some fuel so maybe I can afford to be a little "flippant" about this whole thing.
However before I copy the europeans in anything I'll go back to a coal fired steam engine.
Understand, I have nothing against Europeans in fact some of my best friends are Europeans. I just don't want to get in step with their ideas or politics......They do know how to make model airplane engines run.....I've never been able to get one to run to my satisfaction without nitro, even my Belkos.

Hmmmmmm...
Well I reserve the right to pick and choose what I want to use from any culture and identify what is wrong with it and discard that.
My ancestors are English and left there because of poor treatment and bad ideas that were forced on them.
When they came to America they chose to live differently and make their own decisions about how things should be done. They then whipped the British and sent them back to Europe so they could continue to have the right to choose what they wished to do.
I feel the same way about the goings on in Europe today. I take what I think is worth while and reject the rest.

Seems like the Frenchies helped us out a bit there when we were "whooping" those British butts.
And before we get onto French bashing jokes, I'll note that the Atlantic and Pacific were our best weapons in WWII.

Actually both nitro and methanol have taken BIG jumps in price recently. And that will show up in our fuel prices.

Low prices at some LHS are due to them having fuel they got a while ago.

The only reason I EVER stopped in Moline was for fuel, for my MD-80.

Get off the California stuff, buddy. I've lived here for most of my life and like it. We have perfectly normal people here and fly models, have families and marry wives just like people in Illinois. Which, by the way, is the state of my birth, and as well my parents. So I will spare you the Land of Lincoln insults, if you will knock off the California crap.

Until I upgraded to electric, I used 20% castor & 5% nitro and so do most of my European collegues....
