I thought it was a Sterling Mustang? Wing is constructed like a Ringmaster but the wing tapers fore & aft. Wingspan 41" Fuse 24" Strange looking canopy. It had flaps. Then I thought I was a Midwest Warbird? Mustang? Me-109? That does not quite fit either. Does anyone have an idea?

My first thought was a Sterling Yak 9. I just didn't remember the flaps. But then too, it was a day or two ago that I had one. As I think about to, I do believe it did have flaps. Always did kinda want another one. The way it slipped down the back side of a loop... Wow.

My Thanks to everyone. My plans show a wing mounted landing gear on the Yak. I looked at B. Baxter plans site, his photo shows a standard Ringmaster gear same as the ebay picture. It is a Yak & I will enjoy re-building it. Thank You.

That's often been done on the Sterling Yak-9 and Mustang. While it looks pretty slick, if you plan to fly the Yak in OTS competition you'll need to use fuselage-mounted gear per the original design by Matt Kania.

If planning to fly just for fun, you can of course install it anywhere you'd like.

We may have had this discussion before but I've forgotten. If putting the L.G. in the wings was often done on the Yak and the 51 then why isn't that a legal configuration for OTS. If they did indeed move the gear in olden times.

Hi, Rick -

I probably should've added this applies when flying OTS per PAMPA rules. As stated therein:

"Paragraph 3.1.1.2 Landing gear. Landing gear material may be changed. The landing gear length need not exactly duplicate the original, providing the models angle of attack (on the ground) closely approximates the original design. Landing gear must exit in the same location as the original design. It shall not be relocated to provide for perceived advantages in ground handling."

The key wording here is that "same location" sentence.
