Advice on postal claim

I sent a guy a new in Box ST G-21 .46 with muffler ears. Cherry to the hilt. Sent it priority mail/ insured. Went to post office to see what happened to it. Az. to Cal. They seemed to care less, heres a form now prove value. Any body have similar experience??

You get a letter (e-mail will do) from the buyer stating this is what he would (did) pay for it. Submit it with your claim. They should pay reasonably thereafter (well, "reasonably" as the government terms it). The claims will be sent to the regional office and payment will come from there.

There should be no problem domestically. When something is to go outside the country, then look out. Each country points at the other. I had an arf sent to Canada. Bent like a pretzel. It took over a year for them to pay off. The local postmaster was quite good, here, however, even stating "we took your money, we should pay your claim."

Be VERY careful with stuff sent UPS. They say they have $100 insurance automatically. Problem is, esp. with model kits, is the box has to have 4 in. of packing all around the item, or they won't pay up. I switched to USPS almost exclusively after UPS refused to pay for a couple kits they ran a fork lift through. A model kit is not fragile, but it should not need 4in. of extra packing to arrive safely if they handle it responsibly. Both incidents happened at the same UPS destination.

Good Lord! How is 4 inches of bubble wrap suppose to stop a fork lift?

I used to work for a Co. that build UPS conveyors. I am amazed that anything but a 1 ft square box ever makes it through the maze. Watched a LOT of packages fall from a 60" conveyor that was at 25 ft once I mean a LOT of them. No one shut it off either.

Lemme make a comment about the "U.S. Mule". Some time back I bought an FR O&R 29 on E-bay. When the "engine" arrived all I got was an empty box that had obviously been sliced open with a sharp knife. The Glenview (IL) Postmaster glanced at it and dismissingly remarked that it "hadn't been properly wrapped" !!! I filled out the claim form he grudgingly gave me and my response to THAT was a form letter from the U.S. Mule telling me that they'd check into it but I shouldn't try to communicate with them further because they wouldn't reply !! Basically, they told me to take a flying leap at a galloping goose. Oh yeah, the package had been insured - but neither I nor the sender were able to collect. . . . . .

It took two trips to P/O but hopefully issue will be taken care of. Lady seemed to make attempt to do it right. Praise the good Lord!!

I remember this incident quite well as I was the one who sold it to you. The responce I got from the post office here was "prove it!". I tried everything to get them to pay up but to no avail.

I also recall that back when I was still ordering the Indianapolis Star for the month of May (Indy 500 reports) I was generally doing well to get about 3/4 of them. I always figgered that someone in the pipeline was an Indy 500 fan. . . . . . .

Or one could dress up like a USPS worker and walk in the post office sporting an AK47. That will get their attention, then file a claim. Bet it goes through.

That sounds like a good idea - NOT! I filed a claim. Waste o' time.

You need to write a letter to your Congressman, even if you didn't vote for him/her. That's the only way to get any action! Explain the situation, and include (copies of) all paperwork involved, letter from Bill Morell, etc. Good Luck!

In a similar vein, I recently paid for an OS .25VF, near-new, at an excellent price. Sent USPS insured (whoopee). The delivery receipt was signed by someone whose name isn't remotely close to mine, in ZIP 95xxx. My ZIP is 77573. And yes, I included a completed Mailing Label with the Money Order! Just about time to write my Congressman, too!!!
