Not much as far as I know. I have been in contact with a group at the Ben Ritchey Boys Ranch in Abilene. Other than that there is a good number of pilots in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area. I grew up in Abilene and I visit Abilene several times a year to see my Mom and sisters. DO you live in Rising Star? We used to go through there on our way to Waco to visit relatives.

#2 sourceYes, I do live in Rising Star. I did live in Dallas for a little while several years ago. Now it is just too far to drive given my budget. I do have a circle or two where I can fly here. Sure is more fun when there are several flyers. I do have a couple of articles coming out in Flying Models but several months away. These are not construction articles on plane designs but how to's on methods and equipment.

I'm originally from Comanche and haven't seen any CL activity around that area for the past 4 decades...There was some over in the Brownwood area but it has more than likely died out due to the scarcity of good hobby shops.
I now live in the Rio Grande Valley area and have with several other friends & 'old timers' begun trying to bring CL activity back to life in this part of Texas. We decided to do this as an attempt to draw kids into modeling as inexpensively as we could as opposed going straight into RC at a much higher start up cost. The effect of our efforts is having a surprising and sometimes nutty reversal ... regular RC'rs in our club have become attracted to CL flying due to it's simplicity and use of little space to fly. And we are having a modicum of success attracting youngsters into the hobby via CL flying also. Lately, we have had several former CL modelers show up that we did not know existed in our area and they are now beginning to get involved again. We have got a CL circle on the same field we fly RC..and we get along famously...!!
Sleepy, if Control Line flying is to florish once again in the Rising Star-Baird-Brownwood-Comanche-DeLeon-Dublin & Stephenville area...you are gonna have to be the one that instigates the activity...Hey, it will be a lot of fun and the occilating buzz of an angry glo engine going round and round is good bait to grab the attention of a few local youngsters and possibly some oldsters as well...plus, there might be a dormant CL guy living near you and may never know it...Give it a try, bud !!

We fly at the city park in Stephenville about twice a week if the weather permits. The boys at the Ben Richey Boys Ranch have cut two circles near their dorms and work very well. The South Loop Pawn and Hobby Shop in Stephenville carries a fair amount of C/L gear and kits.

Pretty sure there hasn't been any CL activity in Eastland since I left there in 1983. Lived in graham for a while, and had some buddies fly with me there. I am now in the DFW area, with lots for flyers... When I moved here, it was the first time in my life I didn't have to fly alone.
