The July/August 2008 issue of PAMPA Stunt News is up and on line for download. Just go to www.control-line.org, then Resources, then Documents, then General, and you will see the latest issue for download plus the earlier 18.

BTW, My wife Sheryl and I with our kids, Daniel and Karen, are leaving the publishing world of Stunt News on December 31, 2008. We will do the last two issues of 2008, September/October and November/December and then there will be a new Sheriff/Dictator of Stunt News (A moniker that I rather like) in town.

It has be an honor to be your Managing Editor for Stunt News since January 2006. But, it is time for Sheryl and I to go as our AFJROTC responsibilities are growing faster than expected. I started out with 72 cadets and now have over 120 for the new academic year. Something had to give and my cadets won out. And I have not built anything since December 2007. I have several airplanes on the bench begging for attention and now that is going to happen.

Dissappointing to hear that you have decided not to continue the great work with Stunt News. However, I certainly understand the desire to get back to modeling and flying. I'm very much looking forward to retirement so I can also. Although we'll miss your dedication for Stunt News, this probably means we'll see more of you at the flying field. That's a good thing....

Fox Two? Rear Hemisphere Weapon Fired...? What's (ret)?

I googled the term. Is it used to say goodbye in military lingo?

Fox Two used to mean short range rear hemisphere IR missile attacks only, but today and starting in the early 80s, the AIM-9L Sidewinder became all aspect and long range (>4 NM) headon shots became the rule as they are today for the Sidewinder.

(ret) means "retired." But as you can read, Sheryl and I are anything but retired. AFJROTC is a mission field and a passion for us both. When I retired after 10 years active duty and 17 years Air National Guard, I thought I was busy during those years with flying, instructing at Air Command and Staff College, a Pentagon tour with the NGB-IG, and time with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, but High School JROTC is much more and we love it. God was good then and he is even better to us now. You see, I now have my squadron. Albeit a squadron full of 9-12 grade teenagers instead of a fighter squadron with Lts and Capts. Both are all airspeed and no vector.

Now, we started out with 72 cadets last year, grew to over 120 this coming academic year and with the addition of another High School, we will have over 180 in two years. New programs such as Varsity and JV Olympic air rifle, armed and unarmed drill teams, Varsity and JV color guard, numerous field trips, Military Functions and Dining Outs/Military Balls with Astronomy and Leadership academics is a full plate. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Well, one era ends and another begins. Again, I wouldn't have it any different.

BTW guys, when NVCL lost its flying field (in a major land swap of private land with the Federal government involving the land our flying field was on), Tom is the one that accompanied me on my visits to Capitol Hill to plead our case to the staffers of our Senators and Representative. His encouragement to me really helped at a point where I had tried about everything else. And this is the effort that finally opened the door for us and got us back onto our old flying site. And probably the only Federally-designated control line field in the nation...
