Voodoo update

Bought an original Voodoo off the Bay some time ago, finaly got around to putting some silk span and dope on it,many coats still to go but it's looking good!

It looks real good. I see you have the long 4" tail boom that is good. I can't tell if the engine is a Fox 36x or a Fox Combat Special but either way it will be FUN.

Looks great. I guess the lady of the house wasn't home when you took that photo.

No she wasnt and you dont want to know about the smell...LOL But oh my I love the smell of dope!!

My missus can't bear the smell of dope in the house, but whenever she paints her nails in the car I simply say "I love the smell of model aeroplanes".

I do that with a smile on my face of cours

The Wooten Voo-Doo is a classic combat model. Although the combat guys now favor those RTF models from Europe, a Voodoo should perform well with a hot engine!

Those ebay Voodoos sell for 75 to 100 bucks.I bought a great set of plans for 10 bucks.I hope you copied the originals and saved them.How many parts go into a Voodoo?..maybe 20 at the most.I scratch built mine in two days and 20 bucks for all materials.With a Fox 35 on it, you have a handful!

It's an old Fox rocket .35 on a bladder, should be a blast to fly!

If it's a good Rocket it should break 100 mph. Mine clocks at about 105 on my leftover '60s combat wing. Plenty fast enough for my old reflexes. Run a 9x7 or 9x6. The Voodoo won't turn real tight but it'll turn real fast!

I could never get over 95 on my VooDoo/ST 35C.

Ha....rememeber buying those at the bon marche hobby shop for $4.95 in the red/white box or was it blue/white? shouldnt be too hard to duplicate, just blow up some plans a D-tube and symet. ribs.. probibly lookin at $20

That said, the Riley Wooten Demon is available as a kit from
Black Hawk models.

If scratch building a VooDoo means you will never do it, this sounds like a good kit...wish he had done the VooDoo instead.

Given the level of interest and the small number of parts, somebody ought to whip up a quick set of laser cut parts for it...

What did they use back in the day?....$$$cote...I don't think so:@

We used silk and dope and still had holes in the covering. I got good at patching silk.

Nylon Chiffon, still available, at least at some fabric/sewing outlets. Various colors & paterns - preferred the polka dot myself. Took a lot of dope to seal but very tough. A lightweight airplane & a solid ground impact might leave you with a nylon bag of bits. . . . .

I only used silk- and for more durable finish blended in some Ambroid - covering fills with fewer coats and was not as easily punctured during landing on a rough field by twigs & stones. Sure wish somebody would at least cut a set of VooDoo ribs- in place of D preshaped LE can used LE like the Sneeker. For that matter- would prefer to build a Sneeker.
I also have original plans for a Raunchy- only built one -it flew quite well with my Johnson CS.

Ambroid on silkspan shrinks like you wouldn't believe. Warps wingtips bad.

I have the remains of a Fox Rumble. I think I should ne able to restore it easily. It's mounted for a Johnson.

Would be interesting to know how many Demon kits from Blackhawk have been sold- and how many flying? Then take a survey to see how many orders would be placed for a VooDoo - or Quicker? or Sneeker?
