Sig Akromaster with MK-17 Diesel

Back in April I was asking about suitable planes for a Russian MK-17 diesel engine (.09 ci.). Well I ended up putting it in a Sig Akromaster and flew it for the first time this weekend. So far it looks like a good match. The plane is 17.2 oz dry and when my new wheels come in it'll be more like 16.5 oz. I flew it on 52' .012 lines. I think the lap times are 5.5 seconds from watching the video. The engine ran great. I shortened the nose of the plane by 1/4" and modified the canopy also. Here's a couple of pics...

At the end I figure-8 it right into the ground. Amazingly the only damage was a broken prop.
I went home happy.

Great video! Really nice plane! Maybe I should dust off my MK-17 and finally use it! I am really impressed at how well your Akromaster flies with the MK-17 for power.

Nice treatment on the canopy too. Gives it a whole different look.

Thanks. I really didn't like the stock canopy. I've got another one to build. I'm thinking of changing the tail shape as well on that one.

It's listed as 1.48cc on the Carlson Engine Imports site.
I have a MARZ 2.5cc engine also and it's quite a bit larger than the MK-17.

Yes it is. I don't know if you're allowed to use that stuff around here, but I've got a bunch of it left over from building R/C stuff.

The Mk 12 is 2.5cc Stu Richmond (I think) thought it was trash but wrote the mk 17 was a nice engine.

thats a cute little plane you have, i fly one with tipan tyro 2cc diesel and have a ball, i also fly larger 60 size stunters but have just us much fun with little ones to. enjoy you akromaster and no more crashs please cheers damien

Larry, They are excellent little .09's. I have three, they all run well. One is in a "Clown", the other two are in my collection. One of the old ad's in Carlson's catalog said they have instrument grade ball bearings. They come with two intakes. The one shown above is the smaller one. The larger one is red.

I expect that I was thinking of the Marz. I had one, and it was OK but nothing special. Now my DDD converted C*x Conquest, on the other hand, is a tiger! Hottest .15 diesel in my collection, and that with only a .165" diameter intake.
