2008 National's

My take on this part I participated in... I drove Seattle to Minniapolis ( missing a hail storm & cyclone ) to practice I trimed my Skylark to a fair point on Tuesday July July 8th it was real windy so I flew until near dark then hit it again in the morning with dead air. When satisfied with the Skylark I pulled out my new Impact on the second flight the control system stuck at take off....really doesn't matter why or where the plane is history.
So at that point I picked up & drove to Kansas City to see the Baseball musieum this was a treat any Baseball lover shoud give himself. Then off to Hanible , Missouri. drove through the night to Muncie. Lots of rain. Monday morning was Classic I was out & in the air at 6:30am... both of my flights I screwed up so better luck next year. I watched some flights Tuesday & left Muncie Wednesday morning the roads were pretty darn good even into I-80 in Wyoming . when I got into Utah the interstate got a little beat up then when I hit I- 84 North it was pretty bad untill about 100 miles into Idaho then good ( except for Road Construction) well into Washington and onto I-82 to I-90 this is where it started to suck . Yes my home state has the worst roads...I feel the rudest drivers. I left Muncie Wednesday @ 8:30am got to my house Friday 3:30pm 2,500 miles one way my new Chevy got 35.4 MPG it's full sized with a 3.5 liter V6 and it's UAW made .

Well not sure about Washington state, but in Illinois, our state sign (like state bird etc) is

You know Alan I drove through only one road in Il. Highway 36 I think perfect I have been on I- 80 & I dont care for the roads in Il. myself.

I calculated that at 35.4 MPH and 2,500 miles it cost you about $278 for $3.95 a gallon gas.

Great , I get to tell someone about my car. This is my fisrt new car since 1973. I was driving home from Muncie last year and the check engine light came on so I went to look at Monte Carlos with 2 planes. I squeeze both into the car & bought it. It's just about what I needed the mileage is better than expected. Time will tell if it lasts.

Sorry to hear about the Impact.

One place John DID stand out: as the primary scoresheet runner for Classic on 7/14. Assisted later that day by Uncle Jimby (Aron), John volunteered all day to rush scores to the table "toot sweet"....which was very much appreciated by all.

Oh, and by the way, one of the Classic judges was that well-known "rocket scientist"; the other being Bob Parker.
