Tuesday in Landres

Not too much activity today. The main contest business was airplane processing. F2A ran into some snags. They didn’t like Carl Lickfold’s handle, and Carl Dodge had to return to have his wings sanctified, their having been overlooked in the first pass. Flying gets underway tomorrow. The flight times were drawn at 7:00 PM tonight. This was to have been followed by a team managers’ reception with local politicians and then the opening ceremony at 9:30. The reception began with ceremonial handshaking and gift presentations, but, because it was in a large, open (unfinished) building, the contestants and general public saw the array of food and drink on display and pounced on it. When I left at 10:00—my excuse is that I need to print flight schedules for tomorrow—the grandstand for the ceremony was empty, riffraff were still taking the food and drink, and the teams had disassembled.
