Plotter Cutting of Masking Material

My local vinyl cutting sign guy is out of business. He would cut my lettering on a special low tack material that I could use for masking. I’m having trouble with other sign shops in acknowledging anything other than regular vinyl material, which is too stickey for dope.

Does anyone know of any hobby related online company that might cut masking if sent a file? Or, are there other ways to “skin the cat” without having to cut out myself with a #11 xacto?

YOu want to specify, Gerber mask, or AVery makes a masking product as well.
I have a vinyl cutter personally, but have not yet worked out the details enough to offer my services. should be up and running in a month or so..
( I have to,, I need to cut the masks for my new plane!) lol

I looked yesterday on the web for small plotter cutters .... there are some out there for the hobbiest, but I couldn't find anything to fit my budget .... good luck with your setup ... keep us informed.

If one plans to do a lot of cutting an owned machine is the way to go IMO.
I've been looking for a small cutter for quite a while. Been lurking on e-bay. I didn't want to spend over $200 on an 8" cutter, but was never able to find one. Then I checked out USCUTTER's 12" machine. They usually have several on the bay at any time. Anyhow I got one including shipping for less than $185. The vinyl and masking material comes from a link on their web site. So far so good. BTW smaller than 15" wide vinyl is hard to locate, but the US cutter link had 12".
As soon as I got it I made both vinyl numbers and stuff and paint masks. Both worked pretty easily with the included software, "SignBlaster".

Do you find the software limiting in any way? Can the cutter use Illustrator, Corel Draw or DXF files?

Yes they cut stencels and they answered my e-mail about this in real short order.

I ran into the same problem as far as the material was concerned. I ordered special masking material called MACMASK from H & H Sign Supply down in Kentucky. Cost was by the yard that was 24" wide. Just about $5 a yard. Just check with the local sign shops and see if they'll let you supply the material.
