Anybody from Chicago??Newbie lookinig for help

hey,

I'm trying to get into control line flying. I need to get an airplane and everything else ( I fly RC airplanes so there is some stuff that I have)

If anybody could help me out I would appreciate it.

If you live in the Chicago area the best thing to do is come out to the model airplane flying field (Ned Brown Woods) that is located on Golf Road in Prospect Heights. This forest preserve is east of Highway 53 just across from Woodfield Mall.
The Chicagoland Circle Cutters club flies there. When the weather is good (not like today with the 3 inches of snow) you will normally find guys flying Thursday evening, and Saturday and Sunday morning. We have three flying circles and on a nice summer Saturday morning we might have 10-15 fliers at the field. Our club holds monthly meetings at 7:00PM at the Arlington Heights library 2nd floor meeting room (typically the second Friday of every month). Anyone interested in model airplanes is welcome to attend. Mike Schmitt and I are co editors of the club's monthly newsletter. I could put you on the list of people we send a complimentary email copy to if you want me to.
We have had a number of new members join recently who are either "retreads" (people who flew control line many years ago, quit, and now desire to get back into it) or are totally new to control line. I was a retread myself 8 years ago. I came out to the flying field as a stranger with the first control line plane I'd built in 35 years and was just amazed by the help I received from the guys. Several club members routinely let new interested people fly their trainer airplanes. New fliers who join the club, depending on their needs, are sometimes given flyable aircraft (some even ready-to-fly with engines) for either free or a token cost by generous club members.
If you are looking to buy an inexpensive flyable control line airplane and other supplies then come to the flying field or a club meeting and you will find several people who have some available. We are always looking to help "newbies" and encourage interest in control line modeling/flying. Looking forward to seeing you at the field.

What Dennis says is correct. The quickest way to ease into
an airplane might be to drive out to Ned Brown and meet some of the
guys.

By the way, there are already at least three "Mikes" that fly
there, but I'm sure we can use at least one more. We are, however,
down to only one "Dale" since Mr. Gleason retired from the airline
and quit visiting the field.
