whats a good .15 size plane

i got a good cox medallion .15 and i want something to fly for practice

We had a couple of Akromasters in our club, they fly well, hard to go past for the money, especially as you're in the US and they are really great value for money. What are they $26 over there?

He's got both the Flite' and Lightning Streaks. I feel that the 'Lightning' resolved some of the buildability issue of the 'Flite'.

Is there a kit available, or just plans.

A jr. Lightening Streak powered by an FP15. Very fast, maneuverable, but surprisingly not jumpy on 52' .012 lines. It feels like I can do 2 vertical eights, one above the other. (I haven't tried it.) I have done vertical eights, starting at 90 degrees, finishing at 45 degrees or so. They just happened. These flights are with the FP running hard. Possible the plane will fly slow. Dunno. The Jr. Lightening Streak uses a standard leading edge instead of the two piece jr Flite Streak leading edge. The 2 piece is a pain, IMHO. Almost impossible to get the dagger front ribs to fit right. I have a 1/2 ounce in the tail. Have you chosen your engine yet? This plane configured the way it is, is a hoot. If you want a slower sport plane, might want to power the jr. Streak with a .10.

Powered by an LA 15 turning a Master Airscrew 7-6, it's fast, nimble and it does a very respectable pattern. 50 x .012 lines.

I've let many people try it and never heard a negative comment - it's just a blast to fly. I will have it at the 2009 Fly-In for people to try.

I will gladly send a copy of the plans/article to anyone who wants them.

The Medallion is a modestly powerful 15 by today's standards. It should do well in any of the models recommended. The LA 15 and a few other more recent engines are very powerful, and might even be too much for a Jr Streak. MOST likely a bit much for the Akromaster, too.

Still, a light, straight 15 model can be flown on longer lines, which slows the laptime and gives it more sky to work in. They can be bunches of fun! Go for it!

Hi Lou, My experience sez the same thing. In addition to most of the
recommended models..except for the Flying Clown(wing area too darned small),
I also recommend the Dumas version of the Tomahawk, and the Smousen,
Barry Baxter has plans for this ModelHob kit.
The Smousen and Dumas Tomahawk are the same size(330sq"). Bare has flown his
Smousen with a variety of .15 diesels and maybe even an .09. I have
a 25 years+ old Dumas Tomahawk that has also seen five .15's, three
being old 60's design .15 Silver Swallows, which flew the model very
well on 60'X.015" lines. The Cox Medallion has got to have a bit more
power than those Silver Swallows.

Bobby Z's plane is a hoot every which way. Flies great. Like others of its ilk, silly fast and ultra maneuverable.

use an 8 x 4 prop ! ( an old Topflite ? )

If an FP had too much grunt , you could always fly it on 60 ft. line
The old Peacemaker ( same as a flite streak was pretty good on 60s , in calm air , with an OS max .20 , probly 8 x 6 tornado prop.

Would have been old .012 or .015 laystrate or Modelair wire .

Have you thought about the .15 sized P-51 by RSM? It was designed by Ron Burns and flys beautifully. An Intermediate Flyer borrowed it and took it to a contest and scored 458 on his first flight without appearence points.

i dont know about these days but a magician was a good flyer and quick to build
