Anyone got experience with using a 4 stroke glowplug? I want to try one as I can't find a 2S longreach plug I want to use. Should be good in retaining heat which might help in my when outside turning overspeeding engine. I have an OS-F plug which has the longer reach, no info on how hot/cold it is so curious if anyone has experience.

I have used the OS 4S F plug in a Stalker .61 RE, and seems to work pretty good overall.

OS Type F is a hot plug also a YS 4 stoke.I was using the Type F yesterday.Fox Miricle plug is a long reach 4 stoke but not hot. It may work for you though. You dont know till you try.

I have used OS, Fox Miracle, K&B, and Fuji 4 stroke successfully.
The OS F plug protrudes down into the chamber a lot...might be a problem with some engines. And the Saito plug is actually the same, and made by OS, for Saito.
The Thunderbolt 4-Cycle plug looks just about like an OS A3, except it's a little longer (like a typical USA made long reach). I use the Thunderbolt 4-cycle plug in my DS .60bb and have used it in a ST G.51. It's hot, but not as hot as the OS F. The question is, can you get them? I dunno, but it would be my starting point.

OK guys, will be trying the OS-F plug in a couple of hours. ( wind 3m/s, temp 15degr C, 4 octa's

).
By the way, expensive little things these plugs, 20USD

.

In the US, they cost about $8.00, less if you buy 6 at a time.
You might be interested in this plug rating chart. The OS F is really not all that hot. I saw it rated as Medium somewhere else.

Today proved a great day for solving problems and flying. Apart from the splendid weather and friends to fly with the OS-F 4S plug preformed ecxellent. Even solved a previous problem (2stroking in outside manouvres) and I can again use open venting on my uniflow setup which I prefer because it gives me a more constant engine run throughout the schedule (using exhaust pressure always has the tendency to speed up considerably at the end of the flight). Aircraft is in reasonable trim after some 40 flights so far and now that the engine worries are solved we can concentrate on flying 100%.

I have used the OS F plug in a number of my engines besides my Saitos. Always performed well. The F plug is designed to withstand the very high compression pounding of a 4 stroke, consequently, it seems to last forever in a 2 stroke motor. Also, the F plug is also designed the keep the "fire lit" during extended 4 stroke idling, consequently, it should help to keep the fire lit during the overhead 8's into the sun, with high winds LOL.
You know, glow plugs are important. They are not sexy like props(okay,okay-props are not sexy like Megan Fox sexy) but, the wrong plug can ruin your whole day. I know that the F plugs are expensive,(I think they are expensive) but,O.S. makes a good product, they know it and they charge accordingly. I can tell you that these plugs are the absolute standard in the 4 stroke RC community and with good reason.

For a hot plug, try an Sonic Tronics Glow Devil R/C Long, part number R/C300 I believe. I have been using them in everything I fly, they last a long time and are reasonably priced. I think you could order them through just about anywhere. They are a long reach plug with idle bar. It gets down into the combustion chamber where the action is, and I like the idle bar as it give carbon and gunk something to cling to instead of the glow element.
Good luck and have fun,
