Does anyone know the break-in procedure for this ABC motor?

Thanks, Shawn

The same as any other ABC motor.
Use fuel that is 11.5% castor oil and 11.5% synthetic oil and either 5% or 10% nitro
Run it from the get-go in a fairly fast 2 Cycle mode. Do not ever 4 cycle it. Heat cycle for 2 minutes at a time for a couple of runs, letting it cool completely between runs. Then increase the runs to 3, then 4, then 5 miutes until it has 30 minutes of run time on it.
Then start flying it. Do not fly level. Do constant climbs and dives to change the load on the engine constantly while it is breaking in.
You will know when it is broken by the way it settles in after about an hour of run time.

I tried that once as an experiment to find out how much damage 4 stroking could do to a brand new ABC (I bought it cheap so I took the risk). After 45 minutes slobbering rich the conrod was running in nicely but the piston was virtually untouched and still had the same pinch as out of the box. It seems the excess fuel gives too much internal cooling of the piston so it can't expand as much as it should. Now I begin my running in with a minute or so of 4 stroking then go to the break point and gradually lean it out over 30 minutes or so to let the heat slowly build up in the piston and gradually adapt to the liner.

It's much easier on you (and your flipping arm) if you make the first two runs "open face"; that is, without muffler. I wasted a day and a half with mine; then removed the muffler and it lit up on the 2nd flip.

My Evo still in the packaging- waiting for some warmer weather to break -in. I don't plan to use muffler pressure so will need to change to one of the two smaller venturies- which one should I use?
Also uncertain about retaining the rear NV- and likely would prefer conventional setup- will std ST style be a drop in? Planning to run it on Powermaster 10%- 22 oil, same as my B40 and OS46LA

I just put mine on an airplane and flew it with some eazy runs.

It will accept the NVA from the S model throttle. Possibly the FP also.
