SIG Fuel

This a specific question about SIG fuels. I can't find anyplace nearby that sells Powermaster and can pick up SIG fuel when I'm at the Northwest Regionals next month. I've been using Powermaster YS 20/20 fuel and will need more soon. I know that SIG Champion fuel is a 20% oil content, half syn. half castor. I use it on some of my engines. Does anyone know what the percentage of oil is in SIG's all synthetic fuel? If so, I can get some and doctor it with nitro and additional oil to get what I want.

Sigs regular all synthetic is 18% Klotz. The four stroke fuel is all Klotz, but it does not say what % oil. You might e-mail them for that info.

Rich's Brew in Texas has Ucon Oil. Shouldn't be a hazmat charge on that so shipping should be "normal".

They didn't answer my email inquiry. I assume they aren't interested.

I had these same questions a while back. Sent an e-mail to Sig and got the following reply from Mike Lee.

"Sig blue 4-sroke, lube is 18%, all Klotz synthetic.
10, or 15% nitro.

Sig red 4-stroke, lube is 16% total, half castor & half Klotz synthetic. 10, or 15% nitro.

Sig Syn-Plus, lube is 18% all Klotz, with SG-7 additive.
5, 10, or 15%
nitro. Mike Lee"

The good part is that Sig doesn't cheap out on the oil and nitro % numbers by converting to weight instead of volume. 18% oil content is measured by volume.
Not so with MOST other fuels.

I'm pretty sure Powermaster measures by volume. And, they furnished fuel free to the US control line team and delivered it to us in Europe. Their stuff was good enough to win the individual and team stunt world champs.

I went to the LHS today and picked up two gallons of Powermaster YS 20/20 specifically for Alan (see yas at Regionals). Seemed pretty pricey, at $24.99/gallon. They wouldn't give me the 10% discount for AMA membership, which I've gotten before.

The LHS guys said Powermaster was going out of business, confirming what Pete Ferguson suspected. I asked what they intended to carry, and they said Wildcat (and SIG for the CL guys). But that was also the a-hole that flat lied to me last Spring, too. Yeah, the one that flies the micro R/C heli up & down the isles while I'm wandering around looking for the DuBro stuff that's mostly gone.

It happens that they have an equivalent to YS 20/20 (click on the "2 & 4-Cycle" fuel jug). Also a good equivalent to 10/22GMA, if you get "Jet A 10%". The best thing is that there's also a 5% & 15% in the same 'family', which is a synth/castor blend at 23% oil. No, it doesn't say if they're 50/50, but maybe an email would answer that question. There are lots of mixes that could be easily 'doctored' by adding castor and alcohol to get what you want, UNLESS you want all castor oil. For that, see SIG! Steve

The SIG Syn Plus 4 stroke fuel is 18% oil comtent
The Syn Plus 2 stroke fuel is listed by SIG as 20% oil content

If you want to know the real oil content of any fuel you can do a simple boil down test: Take a 100 ML container and fill it with a model plane fuel. set it in a pot with a couple of ounces of boiling water..outside... and stir untill the nitro and methanol is gone, read what is left.
I have done this on many brands of fuels over many differant times to test. many so called 18% oil fuels leave 14 ML of oil behind, this is 14% by volume, and could be very close 18% if you measure by weight.
Some have had as little as 12% total oil.
