flat building board

Last week I stopped by a countertop production company and saw that they have a huge dumpster full of very nice high end top material, granite, marble, quartz, then all the composite stuff too. They let me dig through their dumpster and I found a 1-1/4" thick slab of granite 18" wide and 40" long perfectly flat and polished smooth. The best part is that it was FREE. The worst part is that it weighs at least 60-70 pounds.

Saw this on a stick and tissue site and thought it might be of interest here. Probably easier to find than heavy glass and it is what they use for surface plates after all so should be dead flat after the grind and polish job they do.

Shore is hard to push the pins in tho......

At least his 'tombstone' makes a great base for the Celotex, or whatever they call the ceiling tile stuff these days.

I've been looking in Home Depot over the past couple years for just such flat material, but their prices are very high. I have relatively flat surfaces in this house, but they are not quite to my satisfaction for wings, and the floors...! Nothing short of those thick composites or the marble/granite stuff is likely to stay flat around here. SO - I'd really like to run across that dumpster!
