Ahhhh the good ole days

Hi guys,

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook, it’s a short movie, check it out, I think you’ll like it


In addition to home field flying, you can also see me flying on the ice rink at on of the M.A.D. day (Model Aviation Day)
events in Rockefeller Ctr. 30 years ago. I don’t think you can see the plane, it was a 1/2A Ringmaster that was going like a bat out of ####…

Well, Walter, that sure looks like a lot of fun. You are right, those were the good old days. WaHoo.

Back in the 1950s there was a JU-87 stuka model kit with a carved balsa fusealage. I thought it was a Consolidated kit. I built one and put a .29 engine in it and flew it several times and sold it to another soldier I knew. Does anybody remember it or know if it is still obtainable?

I think we were the same height, but I am the good lookin chubby one.

I know in my mind who the kid talking with my father is but can't remember his name.

I am told the field is still there but sadly unused.

The skinny kid was my friend and combat partner Pat Carey Jr.
I am and was not skinny... well matbe during my mid 20's I was but that went to #### in a hand basket after I had my back injury.

Thanks for sharing. I never had any film of flying in my early days. We had a ball park real close to my house and used it often. Sometimes a little conflict with baseball players. Once that Johnson C/S fired up and flew most departed quickly. Never had any real problem.

The field is still in Forrest Park and is used by Rich Turello, he is trying to get the park to trim the trees as you have little room for wandering on 60 foot lines.
