G 40

Would a ST G40 be a suitable engine for a 700 sq in, 46 ounce plane.

For combat? The displacement limit is .36 cid. Maybe .365 cid now? Otherwise, it should go like he!!, if you prop it right. Might be a fun sport plane. How about a Nostalgia Carrier model? Steve

I think you are telling me this engine would not be suitable for stunt. Oh well, it was a freebie.

Is it a rear valve? Which piston/sleeve does it have? I believe they made an iron piston with a baffle (cross flow), and standard tiger porting in iron/steel and ABC versions. There is also a ringed version that fits from a como 40 with perry ports that has a baffle but it's a real gas hog. The thing for stunt is, it's a pretty heavy engine unless you're talking about the G21-40 which is a whole different cat.

G40, NO. G21 40 yes. S40, maybe. GS40 Maybe. Super Tigre made a lot of different 40's.

Here is a photo of what I think is a G 40. The other side has made in italy and stamped 40. I made the venturi and did some file work to smooth some broken head fins. Any help in identifying the engine and its usefulness in stunt is much appreciated.

That is the GS40. I had 2 S40. I ran mine on a stunt model for a while till it started running bad. I took it apart, and the sleeve has torn up. It isn't chromed. I used a 3 blade Tornado 10-4 prop. Its only real fault is that it is heavy. I used a G51 venturi.

I think this series is very similar, to the "Bull Ring" 40/46. I had a 46 back in the day, and was never very happy with it. Mine (probably unfortunately) was modified for lucky best stunt run, and it was quite weak for its weight. No stronger than a good G21/46 but at least a few ounces heavier.

A mostly-stock engine might be a lot better, very likely to have more power, and I think we know a lot better how to use it.
