Combat Graffiti

Thaks for all of the input everyone gave me on their favorite old time combat ships, 1963 and before.
From all this, I have drafted a set of rules and am moving forward with this as a fun fly event. There are:
Point can be earned from appearance points, best costume, engine identified in plans, period engine, most unique, ugliest, original trim pattern. no kills in a match, 3 cuts maximum. The list goes on.
I think this will prove to be a fun event.

The tenative schedule will be in B.C. around April. When I finish the Promo ads, I'll put them on Flying Lines with a list by date of the Baxter plans available.
Walter Umland of Builtright has some interest in this as well and offers kits that qualify as well. which reminds me, I need to send you a check for the half fast.....just been a busy summer!

Hi Ken, scoring for 3 cuts only is too restrictive. You might have more luck
simply embelishing current speed limit rules. I've flown lots of 80 mph
combat matches, using Wooten and Mathis designs and Fox 35 stunt engines. Bare has
also used many 50s/early 60s models very successfuly in 80 mph Combat.
You can run no-kill combat rules, but 3 cuts only just doesn't fly
with me(pun intended).

80 mph and speed limit Combat has been run for over 2 decades; kill
and no kill rules have been equally effective. You can try appearance judging,
but Combat is not about appearance, I've never met a combat flyer that
was in love with his/her combat planes. Combat planes are weapons,
that's all. I do appreciate that you are giving thought to a new event,

Ken knows a lot more than most about combat, this I think is more about combat as a documentary of years gone by. You know, "Glory Days"
By the way, it looks like Vintage combat will be an event at the 2012
KOI. Selfless promotion intended

This event isn't really for combat fliers. It's an experiment to get stunt and sport fliers out that USED to fly in the old days. Most quit when their equipment was hit, ruined or otherwise wrecked by guys wanting to get the kill. Nothing wrong there, but this is an attempt to get some who otherwise would not to participate and buil;d a stunt finish on a combat design. You're right, it's not really a combat event but we already have stunt.....

Ahhhh, I get it Ken, I first flew Combat in the middle 50s, so I know
the models used then. I flew Firecats, Half Fasts, Clowns, Omega type
wings(designed by Jim Hudson) and even used an All American Senior briefly.

That was plenty of fun: and I recall many four-up Combat matches with
the South Bay guys. I considered myself a control line sport modeler in
those days, but I soon specialized in indoor and outdoor FF and HLG.
I returned to Combat in the early 1980s and involved my second batch
of kids then.
