A few months ago I listed a MP Stilleto kit and new in box UC ST G-.51 for $250.00 Someone took exception to why I wanted $175.00 for kit. The main reason that only a small # esist plus a fine stunt ship. Ebay has one at 280.00 with over Three hours to go. #220006786526 Another point was an ST G-.51 cost $79.95 plus $7.95 postage that made kit at around $165.00. I withdrew the kit and engine from the forum and decided to keep it. What I list is far below ebay. I know many would not buy from ebay but some items are hard to find elseware. Even with cottage kits many planes from the past are not available anyware. Some of us like the original item that came from that time frame. Others don't and thats fine.

It's a free market thing....I believe that no one has a gun pointed at buyers or sellers here, nor the other boards where good are offered for sale.
E-bay sets the high value of something, and I would wager that you could get significantly more for the pieces that you offer if you listed there exclusively....

Collectable items (antiques, cars, coins, paintings, firearms and hobby objects) commonly bring more money at auction, that’s why the seller sells them at auction....dah!
eBay has brought same very unique items to the marketplace that most of us would never have the opportunity own. The downside of eBay is the falsely and often unrealistic price elevations commonly associated with “high bidder” mentality of auction fever. Although bargains can be found, the prices of nice / mint vintage C/L items are no exception.
A similar phenomenon has happen in the collectable car market as the televised Barrett Jackson auto auction has “misleadingly” inflated the value of many old cars’. Now everyone with a 1960’s Camero thinks it is worth at least 80K. Others buyers remember when they sold for 5K and will refuse to pay any more than that.
So far it is apparent that only ONE person is willing to pay the $280 price tag for a MP Stilleto kit. However from this day forward, most owners of a MP Stilleto kit will beleive their kit is worth at least $280! Conversely, more rational buyers will refuse to pay more than $125 - $175 for the same kit.
Actual value of anything is definitley determined by what ONE person is willing to pay for the item at that PARTICULR moment! eBay increases the odds of matching the seller's item with that ONE "got to have it" bidder!
One instance that I find curious are the constant commercials that say something like "Buy our factory direct diamond rings--guaranteed to appraise for twice our sale price!" (Can you tell that Christmas is recently past? But wait, the ads run all year long!) There would seem to be something wrong with a valuation process that has a constant 2x factor applied to it. There is at least an explanation for collectible items like an original model kit.

PS-Hey, what do I know? I just found out from reading another thread that the ancient ST.35 I flew into the ground a couple of weeks ago is a collectable----and was worth 1-3/4 good stunt motors....
