Al's Models Disk

This disk contains two complete and complimentary parts. The first part is a copy of the two part Control Line World magazine published in October 2007and January 2008 by John Brodak. It’s largely a series of monographs organized in an autobiographical format. According to Microsoft’s Word/tools/word count, this part contains 25,047 words and 61 photos. Most of the monographs in this part are technical explanations of various features of competition control line stunt ships. These features appeared about forty years ago and were mostly, my original work. The rest of this first part relates to the process of designing progressively capable and realistic semi-scale airplanes.

The second part is a comprehensive construction tutorial containing another 53,662 words and 534 photos. It is a hand holding tutorial covering the complete construction and finishing of a semi-scale “Snaggletooth” Mustang. It covers much more than just the building of a specific airplane. It also contains a wealth of construction and finishing techniques, all explained in great detail with illustrating photos. It has also been published in the control line forum Stuka Stunt in its entirety and can be downloaded there in eight parts. This disk combines the information from two magazines and the eight parts from the forum to make a single source reference to subjects of interest to builders of control line stunt ships.

I'll always have as many copies as needed. I just laid in supplies to duplicate, dress up and install in Slim Clear Jewel Cases. Even if you have seen some of the contents in Control Line World The 61 photos there were typically 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" black and white which lacked detail. Actually, some of the pre1975 photos are still B&W made when I used to develop negetives and print in my bathroom lab. The rest are in color. On the disk the photos appear as you see excerpts here.

The disk is in the mail. I am able to turn most of the replies around the same day I receive them. I haven't made disks for sale before. I have checked many on my equipment. They all check out fine but there is always the possibility that they may not play of someone else's equipment. Please let me know if anyone encounters a problem,

I just discovered a problem with my disks when one was returned last week.

My computers both have “Windows” operating systems so everything that I’ve written for years turns out to be “Microsoft Word Document” files. This is very common software but occasionally there will be computers which can’t open Word files. Upon discovering the problem, I had the “Al’s Models” master disk converted to an Adobe PDF file which (I’m told) is a more compatible format. Hopefully, this is a significant improvement in the disk and should minimize failures of the Al’s Models disk to play.

I still have about 20 “Al’s Models” in Word files. These are available for $15 including S&H. PDF disks are my new standard and ship at the regular price of $19.95. Any problems with disks already shipped, or new shipments, including these discounted disks, will be replaced with the newer PDF file type. Keep the problem disks and pass them on free to stunt flying friends who can use them. Any other problems will be resolved with a refund.

Misplaced

Tried unsucessfully to get this to the top.

The only problem I've had so far is with one Microsoft Word Document. I see from my records that I sent your disk on the 14th. I didn't send out any PDF format disks before the 23rd so you surely have the Word formatted disk. This could be my second and hopefully, my last compatibility failure. Your new PDF format disk will be in the mail tomorrow. You mentioned using Adobe which is great as PDF is an Adobe format.

Odds are that your problem is no more than a compatibility problem. I suggest that you give that disk to a stunt flyer who can open and enjoy the disk. I don't need it back in any case as I think the problem is solved.

This is the appearance of the new PDF format disk. It can be identified by the "PDF" near the right side center. So far I've had only the two failures of the earlier Microsoft Windows document version to play and I feel that even those were normal in other equipment. The contents are identical except for minor changes in formatting.

I just checked the only two Word formatted disks returned and found them both normal. This indicates there was a compatibility issue with the purchaser's computer or software. In any case, I don't ship Word format disks any more except the discounted Word formatted disks. Even the discounted disks would be replaced with a PDF disk if they fail to load. There seems no problem with the generally more compatible PDF format disk shipping now.

I'm working on a new disk. It may also be offered for sale but is in the development process so far. With David Russum's help, we are trying to get data and video on the same disk. So far the data includes all 11 parts of the Mustunt IV tutorial, and a couple of classics, "Go For Broke" and "Evolution of a Thoroughbred", the original Sea Fury and Mustang articles from 1978. It will also empty my files of my best short articles like the "Rabe Rudder" which appeared here on Stuka Stunt and can be downloaded free.

we are hoping to get some Snaggletooth, Bearcat and Critical flying on the disk also. The technology for this is perhaps more than we can manage. Anyway I'm having fun playing with my computer and reliving the past.

I'm working on a new disk. Like the "Al's Models" disk, this one is a reference disk containing a number of articles written for Stuka Stunt, some were used in Stunt News and the original 1973 Sea Fury and 1978 Mustang articles published in American Aircraft Modeler and Flying Models. I'd rate the content of this disk as being a bit more general than the original disk. This should be the last disk. With this one, I've pretty much emptied my files of material which might be of interest.

David Russum and I are working on adding flight videos of the blue Snaggletooth, Bearcat BBQB and Critical Mass. The problem, for the moment is that AVI files for these videos are too large and the JPEGs aren't stable. If any reader of this has suggestions, help would be appreciated.

So far, The disk is up to 74,749 words, 613 pages and about 650 photos. My my list of subjects, in addition to the Mustang and Sea Fury classics, include the entire 11 parts of the Mustunt IV tutorials. Most of the following articles, including the Mustunt IV tutorial, can be down loaded free from Stuka Stunt, but the ones on the disk are reformatted to PDF and contain more and better photos. Articles included are:
