Fun Fly, Pot Luck, Auction and Streamer Chase Event
When: Friday, July 4, 2008-- 9 to 2 or so. Stay for potluck lunch.
Where: Bill Osborne Field, Alameda.
Bring: Planes you like to fly and food or drinks to share.
Activities: Open flying on both circles
Bring your latest projects for show and tell.

In the tradition of novel (silly) fun events at our Alameda Aero-Nut BBQ and Fun Fly days, our last-minute, hastily semi-prepared fun event for July 4th is (insert drum roll sound effect here......):
SLO MO LO ANGST STREAMER CHASE
In this event, a highly disposable drone plane (the infamous "Space Junk") will tow a long streamer straight and level at normal stunt speed, and 9 contestants flying simultaneously (making it 10-up) will attempt to score cuts on the streamer while avoiding a 10-plane, 10-pilot mass pileup and group trip to the hospital. Just kidding. It is supposed to be LO ANGST.
In reality, only the drone pilot and one contestant pilot will fly at a time. The contestant will attempt to score as many streamer cuts as s/he can during the flight. Scoring ends when the drone runs out of fuel. The contestant collects his/her
[photo not recovered: kiss.gif] streamer cuts and the score is posted. There is no kill score, and taking the streamer all at once (intentionally) is a obviously a bad scoring strategy.
Any plane that will fly on 60' lines and meets AMA safety regulations is eligible. The risk factor isn't especially high here, but you might not want to use your latest Concours d'Elegance winner. Something a little faster than average stunt speed is a probably a good place to start. Sharing of planes is allowed. The Builder of the Model rule is completely below the level of anyone's conscious awareness.
We will attempt to have the drone fly at the same speed and for the same flight duration each flight.
The contestant may choose the drone altitude desired (above 10 feet and below 45-degrees) before the flight, and may request to change its altitude during the flight if desired (in English only, please).
The contestant may choose whether the drone or the contestant's plane is launched first.
Streamer Chase will not be held at a prearranged time, so the big circle will NOT be reserved at any time. Streamer Chase will be mixed in with general fun flying, which is available all day, as we have done so successfully with other fun events we have tried. Our goal is maximum enjoyment for all.
So if you would like to give it a try, bring a plane, join in the fun. This is our first attempt at running Streamer Chase as an event, so comments and suggestions are welcome.
