Oct. 8-9: 5th Annual 1/2 Multi-Engine Profile Scale meet (Tucson)

Tucson's 5th annual 1/2A (more or less) multi-engine profile scale meet will be held at Christopher Columbus Park (same site as the VSC) on October 8 & 9, 2011.

This is an exciting little gathering which you may have seen featured in past issues of FM. Once again, Robin Sizemore will be the CD.

We host two events: "Limited", for models having pitch control only (no throttles or maneuvers), and "Unlimited", for "anything goes". We also have an award for the best "all sheet" (flat plate airfoil) entry. Static judging for all three is done on Saturday; official flying on Sunday.

Seen here is an example of what can be done with an "all sheet" (flat plate) entry. This 34.5" span Dutch Fokker T.V has a wing, fuselage and engine nacelles of 1/4" balsa (nacelles faced with 1/32" ply) plus 1/8" sheet tail surfaces. Ultra simple. The trick is to go all-out with the paint scheme & detailing.

This one was last flown in 1976, and appeared as a construction article in the Feb. (?) 1977 issue of "Model Builder".

At our 2010 meet Allen Brickhouse's little Dornier DO-335 won the "Best all sheet" award -- proxy-flown by Keith Trostle.
